Dont Forget Me

Part visual novel, part adventure game, Don't Forget Me is a game that deserves to be talked about more. This is a game that manages to have both style and substance and for me, it is one of the most anticipated games of this style to be released in 2021. With a cyberpunk, sci-fi kind of setting. This is going to be one of those games that people who have beaten it will love to talk about with others.

Johnny Mnemonic

Don't Forget Me is a game that is very plot-heavy and it deals with memories and how we can lose them, how they can be altered and how things are not always as we remember. As the game is so story-driven, I do not want to go too deep into it. What you need to know is that you play as a character called Fran who is now working for a man called Bernard who deals in-memory manipulation. You go into people’s memories to “help” them, but end up as part of this huge conspiracy that affects the whole of mankind!

What Kind Of Game Is This?

When you look on STEAM it lists this game as a visual novel, but I think that is doing the game a huge disservice. While it is very story-driven and certainly has visual novel elements in it. I would say it is more like an old-school adventure game. You will go into people’s memories and you will have to listen to them and pay attention so you can piece things together. It is like you are a detective actually. Don't Forget Me also has you needing to solve various puzzles as you put together these memories. There is far more to the gameplay here than you would think.

Style

I am a massive fan of the way the game looks. This has a very Lucas Arts from the 90s kind of vibe going on with the visuals and that is 100 percent something I am a fan of. Going into a person’s memory is always interesting as you are not sure what the next area will look like. The “puzzle” portions where you need to put things together have a very Tron or Blade Runner kind of thing going on. I love the cyberpunk world that has been created here, it 100 percent makes me want to know everything there is to know about this world.

So, So Smooth

If you have not already, check out the trailer and listen to that soundtrack! It has a jazz and synthwave thing going on and it could not be any more fitting. It reminds me of action and sci-fi movies from the 80s that would be set in the future. They always had this very “jazzy” kind of soundtrack and that is what they have gone for here.

Pros:

• The story is awesome if you enjoy sci-fi
• Your decisions actually matter
• The gameplay is way deeper than you would think
• I love the visuals and the soundtrack

Cons:

• The text is a little bit on the small side
• I do think some high-quality voice acting would have really pushed the story over the edge
