Based on 80’s cop shows, jump into some classic gameplay in Beat Cop developed by Pixel Crow in 2017. It was published by 11 bit studios and is similar to Undertale in a sense. It features classic pixel art and 8-bit music. It boasts deep crime stories and a lot of black humour, which it definitely has. However, this game is quite buggy and is filled with flaws and repetitive gameplay which really kills it.
This game has multiple endings and a branching story that will keep you coming back for more. Enjoy a rich, story-driven, game that puts the reigns in your hands. Dive into the Brooklyn beat and take on criminals like never before in this hidden gem. “There were many before him. But none like him.” As said in the trailer, and it rings true with this game in general.
The Essence of ‘80s Cop Shows
From witty humour to a lot of smoking, Beat Cop is the quintessence of classic ‘80s police shows. Add in the pixel-art-graphics and 8-bit music, and you can’t go wrong! This game could have been an instant classic, but sadly, it just misses the mark due to bugs. Keep reading to find out more about this.
You’ll Have the Last Laugh.
If you like funny games, then this retro pearl may be for you. It features all kinds of jokes meant for those around in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Children of today may not get these jokes at all, and it’s definitely intended for earlier generations. Intention aside, even if you don’t get all the jokes and they go over your head, it can still be a fun and enjoyable game.
Featuring All the Bugs
The bugs in this game are nasty. They literally break the game in different ways. The main bug causes the main character not to move around anymore, forcing you to restart. Despite being made aware of this, Pixel Crow has done nothing about this game’s awful glitches. It may even be a waste of time because of this.
It’s All in the Details
This game features great detail in general. The gameplay is a little repetitive, but the story is endearing and even described as having a life of its own. The pixel art is what really breathes life into this game as well as the great narrative.
Once you add in the 8-bit music, you’re sure to feel back in the ‘80s.
If you are lucky enough to avoid the game-breaking bugs and glitches in this game, then this really is a hidden gem. A diamond in the ruff, if you will. Classic retro-style graphics and music in pixel art and 8-bit music come together with vintage story-telling reminiscent of the ‘80s. Sadly, the gameplay’s repetition combined with all the game-breaking flaws just destroys this game’s immersive quality. It could have easily been a great game if it wasn’t for the flaws.
