Step into the octagon and experience the thrill of mixed martial arts like never before with EA Sports UFC. This game brings the intensity and excitement of the UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) to your gaming console, offering a captivating experience for both hardcore MMA fans and casual gamers alike. From its realistic gameplay to stunning visuals, EA Sports UFC sets a new standard for sports simulation games.

Gameplay

One of the standout features of EA Sports UFC is the incredibly realistic gameplay. The developers have managed to capture the nuances of mixed martial arts, delivering a gaming experience that feels authentic and immersive. The controls are intuitive, allowing players to execute a wide range of strikes, grapples, and submissions with ease. The strategic depth of the gameplay is reminiscent of the Fight Night series, another gem from EA Sports.

The fluidity of the movement and the responsiveness of the controls contribute to a seamless combat experience. Whether you're a seasoned gamer or a newcomer to the UFC scene, the game offers a satisfying learning curve. The career mode lets you create your own fighter and guide them through the ranks, facing off against iconic UFC fighters. The inclusion of real-life fighters and their signature moves adds an extra layer of excitement to the gameplay.

Visuals

Visually, EA Sports UFC is a masterpiece. The character models are incredibly detailed, showcasing the sweat, blood, and intensity of a real UFC match. The animation is smooth and lifelike, capturing the athleticism and brutality of mixed martial arts. The attention to detail extends to the arenas, which are faithfully recreated to mimic the atmosphere of a live UFC event.

The graphical fidelity of EA Sports UFC is comparable to the best sports simulation games on the market. The fighters' expressions change dynamically based on the ebb and flow of the match, adding a level of realism rarely seen in sports games. The visual experience is akin to watching a live UFC broadcast, making it a treat for both fans of the sport and gaming enthusiasts.

Story

While EA Sports UFC is primarily focused on the sport of mixed martial arts, the career mode adds a narrative element to the game. Creating your own fighter and guiding them through the ranks provides a sense of progression and achievement. The storyline is engaging, with rivalries, alliances, and unexpected twists keeping players invested in their fighter's journey. This is quite similar to WWE 2K20 and such.

The narrative structure in the career mode shares similarities with the storytelling found in the FIFA series, another successful franchise under the EA Sports umbrella. The combination of engaging gameplay and a compelling storyline elevates EA Sports UFC beyond a mere sports simulation, turning it into a captivating gaming experience.

Game Reviews

When it comes to martial arts, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is one of the toughest rings around, where talented fighters go head-to-head in bloody bouts. EA Sports UFC gives players a realistic simulation of the bloodsport, featuring a roster of real martial artists and life-like physics. Building up your personal champion, you'll rise from a skilled new fighter into a world champion, but only if you have the talent that it takes. Test your endurance in the ring and try EA Sports UFC right now!

Main Game Features

  • 97 fighters in roster
  • Realistic fighting physics
  • Next generation graphics and gameplay

Modes of Play

EA Sports UFC puts a lot of focus on the core gameplay, with not much in the way of story, but there are plenty of modes to check out. Above all else, this game revolves around you creating your own fighter and training them through a career, with hopes of becoming the champion of your weight class. After going through the decent character creator, you are dumped into some light challenges, which teach you some crucial details not explained in the tutorial. From there, you will embark on a career spanning multiple fights, with opportunities to train up your stats between fights. Before you can jump into the ring in a professionally sanctioned fight, you must win the “Ultimate Fighter” reality show contest, and from there you're off to the races.

Besides Career Mode, EA Sports UFC also has two online modes, Online Championships and Online Rivalries. Online Rivalries are where you and a friend can settle your grudge matches, while Online Championships has you stacked up against the rest of the world in a fight for the top spot. You can track your progress and history through the FighterNet mode, which has other fun features like fight highlights and global leaderboards.

Gameplay

Keeping in line with other modern sports games like NBA 2k14 or FIFA 14, EA Sports UFC aims to give players realistic sports gameplay in a fun and understandable package. It does a great job with the visuals, as the fighters look very life-like, with visible beads of sweat and realistic damage. Official UFC commentators will chime in during your fight, while all the sponsors you expect dot the arena with ads. At the base level, you can attack your opponent with simple strikes like jabs, hooks, and haymakers, but you'll have to pay attention to your positioning. There are various fighting styles available, like karate, jiu-jitsu, and more, which will impact how you approach each battle.

However, this isn't just a boxing game, as EA Sports UFC also features a complex grappling system. Using these grapples, you can potentially submit your opponent with a hold, instantly winning the round. It might be tough to do that, since fighters can easily break out of holds, but it's good to have the option. In general, fighters are able to soak up a lot of damage, making it hard to knock someone out with just punches alone. Still, it's a lot of fun to bash your opponent relentlessly, knowing that their destruction is your only shot at victory.

Conclusion

EA Sports UFC is a solid start for a sports franchise, as it gets a lot of things correct about the Ultimate Fighting Championship experience from the start. Besides the huge roster of real fighters, there are lots of martial arts represented, combat is brutal, and submissions are not dumbed down.

There's a good amount of content for both offline and online play, with a long career mode if you're not a fan of multiplayer modes. Check this game out if you like UFC fighting or if you want a fighting game that's more realistic than most.

Pros

  • Very realistic graphics
  • Fighting feels good
  • So many fighters to choose from

Cons

  • Submissions take a long time
  • Opponent AI makes lots of mistakes
  • Fighters can withstand too much damage

EA Sports UFC is an MMA simulator with cutting-edge combat mechanics for its time. Stain the octagon with your opponent's blood!

Strengths of the game

There are many good things about the game:

  • Virtual gladiators inspired by live fighters from the 2014 UFC league. The lethal counters that fighters used to finish their best fights have been carried over into the game
  • A mini body silhouette shows which part of your opponent's body is damaged - hit it there
  • Animated pre-match rituals for athletes and celebrating victory with the team
