Whether the game actually ends up being good or not, I always get kind of excited when I see a game trailer brimming with color, nature, and adventure. The media we've seen about Everwild seems to encapsulate every aspect here. The upcoming game from developers Rare is already known to be purveyors of grandiose gameplay, making their new IP all the more exciting.

There is not much specific detail been released about Everwild as of yet - although it comes off as a spectacle of brilliance. No release date has been divulged, neither any sort of narrative or lore about the new project. Given how we've been treated to a couple teasers - we'll try and deduce what Everwild is going to bring us.

Into the Wilds

Straightaway we can say that Everwild looks like it's going to be rife with adventure. The narration behind the trailer and the emotional soundtrack set the tone for an epic journey. The storyline itself isn't really presented, just a few poetic words helping bring character to the universe. It sets the scene for an open-world, team-based adventure game.

Everwild looks absolutely stunning. If the visuals in the teaser are in parallel with the gameplay - we are in for a real treat. The animations are some of the most fluid I've ever seen. The characters and environments are almost Pixar-esque, rich in color and finely detailed - while being accessible to build an ethereal aura.

The scenes showing a group of travelers eating together, traveling, and facing challenges show that this will be narrative-heavy. Every obstacle and objective in the game is likely to involve teamwork - and the diverse characters mean they will all have some dedicated features. No combat has been shown - but we get the idea there will be something.

All considered Everwild does really set the scene for something to get excited about. The few minutes we've been shown present a passionate, immersive journey inspired by the grandeur of other open-world games. The highlight is how friendly the game looks to a variety of players. The strong narrative, color palette, and theme look to attract a broad player base. There's a lot to look forward to in Everwild.

Preparing for an Emotional Journey

We're sure more detail will come to light over time - but Everwild's character relationships look strong. Their interactions with themselves and nature are reminiscent of games like Enslaved: Odyssey to the West and Horizon Zero Dawn. We expect nothing short of an epic journey full of emotion and immersion.

The foundations of the teasers set the tone for adventure-style game mechanics. If Rare's previous offerings are anything to go by - there will be hours of entertainment ahead. They have found expertise in building worlds that players love. Everwild, bar some PR disaster, is sure to be a magnificent addition to their portfolio.

Pros:

  • Stunning visuals - rich models and environments
  • Animations that really bring the characters to life
  • The trailer sets the foundations for an epic open-world adventure game

Cons:

  • Practically no detail about the game outside of the trailers
