Fowl Damage

In this atmospheric platformer, players are tasked with a unique problem. The character isn’t just in danger from spike walls or dangerous monsters, but also from themselves. Fowl Damage is the story of an egg. A fragile egg at that. Even a jump that’s too big can break it. Players must carefully roll their egg out of the facility and into an unfriendly world in search of a new home for it.

Puzzles First

At first glance, Fowl Damage looks like a hardcore precision platformer that will send new players packing. The reality is however, the main focus of the game is on solving the puzzles, not necessarily precision gaming. Although your egg can break from jumping, there’s only one standard jump height. This narrows down where you can successfully jump with your egg. Since the full height of the jump is unavailable, it limits where the player can go and helps direct them toward the correct path. The game also features some combat, with creative boss fights at regular intervals throughout the game.

Cute Graphics

Fowl Damage has graphics that run from gloomy to cute, but they all have a classic, pixelated feel. The backgrounds are all highly detailed and help tell the story of the little egg on its search for a home. The sprites are also well developed, and although the little egg is deceptively simple in its drawing, it manages to maintain smooth animation even when breaking.

Solo Designer

Although the publisher of this game has some successful games under its belt, the design for this one is completely solo. The developer joined the Red Nexus Game team after the release of Peglin, a game with similar graphics but in a roguelike genre. There she mentioned the game but expressed a dislike for the publishing side of things. The developer decided to help with publishing after the release of the updated Peglin game. Their faith in this indie developer was well placed. The game releases September 13th but has already received an award. The game is featured as one of the “Six One Indie Showcase” pieces in its award section on Steam.

Level Editor Available

A big feature many platformers adore is the ability to customize levels. Red Nexus Game has heard the request for this, and created a game that allows you to make and share levels—even in the demo version! Level editors are really popular among players because it adds a degree of creative freedom to gameplay, so the fact that they offer this is very encouraging.
