Giraffe and Annika

Certain games are played simply because they’re fun and don’t require too much brain power or attention even. With a game such as Giraffe and Annika we see just that, an entirely enjoyable gameplay experience which won’t leave you feeling mentally exhausted, massaging those worn temples for hours after completion. But by no means does this game bore you, instead we see a creative aspect of life through a fairy tale-esque world in which exploration and wonder is the main goal.

This title is meant for a casual gameplay which you find through exploring dungeons the ability to swim, run and jump while the adventure encapsulates your mind. Where there is really no combat or tactical strategy involved, your character Annika goes on an adventure in which she helps others on the island and in turn, they help her. Don’t expect anything too crazy to go down, but one thing is sure is that this is a well designed game created to warm your heart and leave a smile on your face.

Storyline

You start your adventure on Spica Island, where the foggy resemblances Annika observes seem more memorable than she can recount. Once you sneak into a house and steal a bag you are met by a floppy-eared giraffe which accompanies you on your journey. The game is technically an action-adventure game yet it really lacks the ‘action’ component, however makes up for this with a creative adventure that almost makes you forget the lack of action. While your character explores the dungeons she must be vigilant for the constant rolling of ghosts which inhabit the caves. You are introduced to some of the most illustrious, creative fairy tale style characters throughout, whom can help you in certain areas of the game if you only first support them in their own endeavours such as collecting sea shells on the beach for them.

Game Atmosphere

As already stated, this game isn’t going to test your strengths within the world of gaming, more so it focuses on the basics of the adventure genre, highlighting friendship, trust and the love of exploring. Where the game lacks that addictive atmosphere that most find in FPS or highly tactical strategy games, this is an experience which leaves the player satisfied and happy with the humble gameplay experience.

While the main goal of the game is clear there are still aspects of exploration entirely up to you, such as finding hidden collectible art across the island. In terms of similar games, think Coral Island as a suitable relation to your overall experience.
