Looking for a fun, witty, and challenging adventure game? Ittle Dew 2 is an action filled puzzle game that acts like a fusion of Zelda and Adventure Quest. In this game, the protagonist is Ittle Dew, who inexplicably falls into a pond on an island along with her sidekick, Tippsie.
In order to escape the island, she must unlock 8 pieces of raft which are hidden in various dungeons around the island. The game has a top-down view many old school players will enjoy, and hilarious scenes that consistently break the 4th wall.
Puzzle Your Way To Adventure
The dungeons are well thought out, and set up in a way that encourages free exploration. Although it may take longer for you to get through dungeons, the game assures you that you can get through to the end no matter what items you are carrying. This means that while you don’t need anything in order to get to the end of a dungeon, certain items can help you get through faster. The puzzles in the dungeon are well put together, and are challenging without being incredibly frustrating. Through puzzles you can get items and upgrades, as well as progress through dungeons.
Combat Needs Work
Although the game is populated with monsters you can do battle with, there’s very little reward in the combat itself. Bosses are repetitive, and only vary slightly in how they move and fight. Ittle Dew also moves her sword very fast, and since you can usually come out on top if you just rush into a room full of monsters, there’s no reason to stop and think. Combat skills are also somewhat clumsy. You may find yourself missing due to facing just slightly in the wrong direction. In some cases, it can feel as if defeating them was a matter of luck rather than skill.
Fun loving style
Although the combat is repetitive, when taking the whole of the game into consideration it isn’t a big deal. Ittle Dew doesn’t take itself seriously, as can be seen by the childlike art style, and hilarious veneer. In one area, you can visit the break room and see monsters and characters alike hanging out together when they’re not “Working.”
The game also provides a lot of freedom, allowing the player to defeat each dungeon in any order they want, with the only exception being the final dungeon.
This game has issues that can make playing it frustrating. The repetitive combat and what feels like luck based boss battles can make it uncomfortable. This detracts from the game, but Ittle Dew 2 still has a lot to offer. This game is great for someone who enjoys solving puzzles, freedom of movement, and hilarious cut scenes. If you’re looking for a refreshing break from serious and moody games, this light adventure is a good bet for your gaming needs.
