Have you ever wanted to live the millennial dream of working for a retail company and advancing through the corporate ladder. Well King of Retail may be the game for you. Designed with career oriented people in mind, this game allows you to start from the bottom and work tirelessly to become a business mogul in the retail sector.
In terms of game like this title, its a little bit of simulation and a little bit of strategy. The games most reminiscent of this title would be games like Planet Coaster, Zoo Tycoon or any other game that requires meticulous planning and strategy in a specific sector of business.
Started from the bottom
This games premise is as straightforward as they come. You are a retail worker who begins their journey at a store working the counter. Though through hard graft and acumen for business, King of Retail gives you the ability to grow your skill sets, rise to the top and then break off to form your own successful business.
This gives you the ability to design your company to your own personal preference, manage a team of subordinates and create business strategies to ensure the highest profits and demand for products as possible. The game also offers a variety of sub-sectors meaning that you aren’t always going to sell clothes, there is a variety and it works in the game’s favour. Entering the shark tank
When you enter the world of retail you begin to realise that this title has a variety of different ways to hold the players attention. With the ability to assign tasks to staff, restock and manage workflow within your store, decorate and design your environment to be as visually appealing and we’ll branded as possible. Plus the ability to expand and take over the retail world gives players so many considerations that they must take into every decision.
Aesthetically, not astounding
The game although competent in its design, UI and general presentation is far from extraordinary. The level of artistic flair and detail is similar to that of something you would find on Garry’s Mod. The gameplay and a plethora of things to do offer a distraction from this. Though, in the lulls, you can see through the thinly-veiled shroud to reveal an art style that is one step up from a amateur unity project and nothing more. This is perhaps a harsh criticism as this game is still in early access and the main focus has clearly been on making the gameplay loop fun and accessible, which in all honesty is not a bad approach at all. So we can only hope that this title gets a face lift before beta and full release.
Rule at retail
This score is obviously subject to change as the game has not gone gold yet. Though at this current venture you can see the charm and care begin King of Retail. The core gameplay is solid and offers players who enjoy tycoon games and offers a lot of stuff for players to do. Though it does still have an unfinished and unpolished look and feels to it. So for that reason, it’s likely this one will review slightly better in coming months and years.
- Solid gameplay
- Plenty of content
- A niche concept
- Not aesthetically pleasing
