News Tower

News Tower is one of the most interesting ideas for a sim/management/tycoon style game that I have come across in quite some time. I may have to do a bit of fact checking here, but I do not think I have seen a game of this style set in this world before. Anyway, as soon as I came across this game, I knew that it was going to be something I would like. That is why today I decided to take a look at some of the cool stuff this game has to offer.

Extra, Extra, Read All About It!

If you ask someone who is under 20 what a newspaper is, chances are they will have no clue what the hell you are talking about. That is why I feel News Tower made the smart decision to set the game in the 1930s, the days of when the reporter trying to investigate a big scoop were really starting to take off! It is a fun idea and the game has many different story paths that can occur.

Getting The Scoop Of A Lifetime!

There are many aspects to the gameplay of News Tower, but I want to start with the way that you get the stories for your paper. You have to hire journalists and then send them all over the globe to find the best and most interesting stories. The game has a good sense of humor here with the way that the story is being told. You see, you may think that sending a guy to do a story on the mafia is a good idea, but he may end up sleeping with the fishes if you know what I am saying.

The Right Person For The Right Job

I would not say that the reporters are the most important hire you will make in News Tower, but they are certainly up there. However, you need to have your finger on the pulse of every aspect of your newspaper! This means hiring all the right people from writers, editors, janitors, and more. One wrong hire can spoil the whole thing and cause you major headaches. It makes for a fun management sim where the right employee can make all the difference in the world!

Getting It Into People’s Hands

You are responsible for every aspect of your newspaper business in News Tower. This means that you have to plan the way the paper will be presented. Find the right story, the right byline, sell advertising, and of course, have it so that the paper can actually get into people’s hands. There is way more to making a newspaper than just sending your top reporter out to find the scoop! This is a game that has a great deal going on and I do feel this will come with a bit of a learning curve, but show me a management style game that does not have this!

I have to be honest with you guys and say that what I have told you about News Tower today is just the surface of what this has to offer. I think that this is such a clever idea for a management style game. I love the 1930s setting and the way they capture the era is fantastic and I also think that the humor in the game and the way different stories will occur as you progress helps keep you invested in what is going on. If you like sim and management games, you are sure to have a great deal of fun here.

  • I love the 1930s setting
  • You have to make the right hires such as a reporter, photographer, and more
  • The game has some great little story sections
  • There is a ton of different things that you need to manage to make your paper successful

  • Games like this do tend to have a bit of a learning curve
  • I hope that the stories do not repeat as you play the game for ages
