I do not know why, but games, where you play as a kid have always appealed to me and Night Reverie, is one of the more interesting games to do this in quite some time. It is a puzzle and adventure game that has a kind of nightmare feel to it, but it does not go so far that you would call it a horror game, I would say it is more unsettling than anything else. I found myself very engaged in what was going on here and it was an experience that I had a very fun time with.
The Distorted Reality Of A Dream!
The story of the game is probably the best part of it. We play as a child whose house is becoming more and more distorted and dreamlike and they need to find out what is going on and how they can stop it.
The game is very story driven and I liked how the story was filled in with the various conversations that you would have with characters. The story felt like a mystery that was revealed to me piece by piece and that was something I liked.
The presentation of Night Reverie is fantastic. I love the pixel art that they have crafted here, it truly is a work of art. The house that the game takes place in has a very dream like appearance and it is kind of wavey if that makes sense. There are some very interesting looking characters that you come across too. As well as being a game that is very easy on the eyes, this game also has a soundtrack that is very fitting too.
Finding Your Way To The End Of A Dream!
The gameplay of Night Reverie is very interesting. I went into this expecting a Zelda type adventure and I will say that there is a little bit of that here, but it is mainly a puzzle/exploration style of game. You will be exploring this house and you will need to find a whole bunch of items that can be used to do something else. Some of the puzzles are quite tricky, but I never found any of them so hard that I became frustrated. As this is a “dream” like world, you do have to think a little bit outside of the box. I found that reading what people have to say goes a long way as they do not just fill you in on the story, but give you clues on what to do too.
I have to say that I think Night Reverie is the kind of game that is going to have a pretty die-hard audience. I thought that it was very well made in every regard. I found the whole mystery of what was really going on with this kid's house and their life to be very interesting and I certainly wanted to get to the end of it all.
It also has some fantastic pixel art too which is just so very well done and this is accompanied by a great soundtrack. I do want to add that there is a free demo for this game that lets you play the first chapter, so check that out to see if this is a game for you.
