Aeon Drive

Aeon Drive is a punchy, fast-paced action platformer that really puts players through their paces. Follow speedy protagonist Jackelyne as she blasts her way through cyberpunk inspired Neo-Barcelona and defeats various enemies in amazing style across trap-packed stages that will test even the most dedicated gamer. I sure hope you like games that push the limits because this one can be tough. Gear up and let’s get into this neon-infused frenetic fight fest.

Gameplay

If I could sum it up in a sentence; this game is the unholy love child of Mirror's Edge, Super Meat Boy, and Celeste. Its got that frenetic, high-octane motion that keeps you engaged and on the edge of your seat the whole time. It has a rave-against-time approach to the missions that keep you trying to beat your old score, pushing yourself to greater heights and perfection your craft.

Combat-wise, it’s a bit like the old Sonic arcade game, you blast through missions and destroy enemies with lightning speed. It cannot be denied that this looks to be tremendous fun and there is likely a considerable replay value offered to players based on the missions method of delivery and potential multiple completion options.

As with many platformers, the game adheres to the simple rule of “the higher the level, the more is in your way,” as difficulty is measured more by the challenge of the level is represented through the physical obstacles that you must traverse across. Prepare yourself for things to get crazy over the 100 levels available. You have access to few cool powers including teleportation, and the ability to slightly manipulate space and time which lets you switch things up and be creative in your run.

Finally, they didn’t have to do it but they put in multilayer and it looks awesome. Tag in with up to 3 other players and tackle the missions together utilising different routes and combating enemies as a team.

The Sights

The visuals of this game are fantastic. It looks crisp and clean with a gorgeous pixilated art style. The character design both in avatar and sprite form are brilliant and the land of Neo-Barcelona is stunning to look at with well designed backgrounds and interesting stages.

The Sounds

The audio of the game matches it aesthetic perfectly. A fun, energetic synthwave music plays throughout the levels with a strong beat that helps you keep to the rhythm. Although not a rhythm game, it definitely hits a satisfying note with players that makes you want to push your play style to the limits.

Every time you swing your sword, throw a dagger or use your powers, there’s a very satisfying noise to accompany it. The game developers really must be praised for their efforts in making this game feel as satisfying as possible.
