Pirate101 has been around for a while now and it is fair to say that the last couple of years have seen it pick up some real steam. No matter if you are looking at Pirate101 as a free to play game or even if you are willing to throw a few bucks its ways. Pirate101 is delightful MMORPG that has so much style that I will have to insist you walk the plank if you say otherwise.
A Pirates Life For Me!
As the name of the game suggests, Pirate101 is all about being a pirate. Taking place in the world of Spiral. You and your merry crew will need to set sail and explore the high seas, mysterious lands and everything in between as you take on quests, look for loot and meet other players. While some people may think of Sea of Thieves when it comes to games that let you be a pirate. The fact of the matter is Pirate101 does it much better than Sea of Thieves.
Class & Companions
Like other MMORPG games, Pirate101 allows you to create your own character and there is a lot of choice here for you. What I find really cool about Pirate101 is that when you pick your class as well as the world that you are from it will have an effect on the companions that you have as you play the game. If you were to choose Shipwrecked as your class along with that as the cause of your parent's death, this would decide on the characters that act as your companion. As well as helping during combat, companions also help move along the story and help you in other ways too.
So Much To Do!
One of the best things about Pirate101 is that there is always something for you to do. It can sometimes be overwhelming and you might not know what to do next. For example, there are lots of quests that you can do to move the story along. You can also travel the high seas, there is plenty of combat. Combat, by the way, is a lot of fun and it is turn based, but it is nice and simple and very easy to get to grips with.
How Is The Free To Play?
If you are like me you are always a little standoffish when it comes to free to play games. While there are plenty of Microtransactions in Pirate101. I still feel that you can have a lot of fun and see a great deal of what the game has without spending a penny. The games “story” is split into chapters and you can purchase new chapters with in game currency that you earn as you do missions, sell stuff and so on. You can buy a subscription to the game if you get really into it which will give you access to the full story (as far as I am aware) that is currently available. To be honest with you I think this would be better than nickel and diming yourself.
Pirate vs Pirate
There is some fun PvP content in Pirate101. The combat that takes place in Brawlin Hall and the Sparring Chamber is a lot of fun and you can even trade with other players if you like. Pirate101 has some very strict online safety features that make it hard for kids to be talking to people they should not be. So if you are a parent, you can lock down their account so that they cannot just talk to random people.
Pirate101 is a very fun game to play. It is very easy to get the hang of and sailing the high seas and looking for treasure with your crew never gets old. You can see a fair bit of the game without spending a penny, but it could be worth getting a subscription if you find that you are really into the game. Not many games have managed to capture the feel of being a pirate as well as Pirate 101 has.
