While there’s certainly no shortage of modded versions of Pokémon games, it is worth noting that they all hve their unique features and changes that make each version truly unique fom one another. Today we’ll be talking about Pokémon Radical Red, a modded version of a fan favorite game, this time focusing mostly on the difficulty element of the game. The game is known for its enhanced difficulty level and additional features that make it stand out from the original game. In this review, we will take a closer look at the game's features, its pros and cons, and how it compares to other similar games in the Pokemon franchise.
About the game
Pokemon Radical Red utilizes the Complete FireRed Upgrade engine and Dynamic Pokemon Expansion built by Skeli789, Ghoulslash, and others. The hack provides players with several impressive features, including a physical/special split, fairy typing, moves up to generation 8, updated Pokemon sprites, mega evolution, abilities up to generation 8, raid battles, hidden abilities, day and night cycles, and an expanded TM list.
The game also offers additional features such as higher difficulty, improved AI, a forced set battle style, limited access to the bag during gym battles, and a soft level cap based on the next boss battle. Gym leaders have access to mega evolution before the player, and some optional side bosses have levels that scale according to the player's team. The game also includes new abilities, a revamped game corner, and additional legendaries that are obtainable before the Elite Four.
One of the most significant advantages of Pokemon Radical Red is its enhanced difficulty level, which makes the game more challenging and enjoyable. The improved AI and forced set battle style also add to the game's difficulty level. The addition of mega evolution and hidden abilities, along with the expanded TM list, provide players with more options to customize their Pokemon and team.
The game's quality of life features, such as the IV grade and colored natures on the summary screen, an IV perfecter in Celadon, and an ability swapper in Saffron, make the game less tedious and more enjoyable to play. The inclusion of additional legendaries before the Elite Four and the ability to rematch gym leaders for their mega stones and other rewards also add to the game's replayability.
Comparison to other similar mods
Pokemon Radical Red is similar in nature to Drayano60's enhancement hacks, such as Pokemon Renegade Platinum and Pokemon Blaze Black/Pokemon Volt White. These hacks also provide additional features, including access to all Pokemon up to generation 8 and updated movesets. However, Pokemon Radical Red stands out due to its enhanced difficulty level and additional quality of life features, which make the game more enjoyable to play.
Overall, Pokemon Radical Red is an excellent fan-made hack that provides players with a challenging and enjoyable Pokemon gaming experience. The game's enhanced difficulty level, improved AI, and additional quality of life features make it stand out from the original Pokemon Fire Red game and other similar Pokemon hacks.
