Wow, get prepped for Surgeon Simulator 2. This game is an enormous maddening pile of utter bloody nonsense that has you sprinting around a strange “medical facility” and butchering a man named Bob. It’s a physics-based game so that should tell you a lot about what this game is all about. You and maybe a selection of friends or strangers from the internet all get together to perform intense medical procedures in a frenzied mess of gore and frustration. I hope you are after something truly crazy in this sequel from the much-loved original sim.
Okay so there is definitely gameplay in this, but it’s an absolute mess; the amusing part of it is that it is supposed to be. You run around with access to only one arm apparently and you must perform all the complex surgeries on a single return patient in increasing difficulty.
There are a few different gameplay modes from a campaign, create and discover. “Play” or the Campaign has you follow the story of the game, figure out what the truth behind this strange medical facility is. It gives off some serious Portal vibes as your moving through the facility and learning more about it from the strange voice over the public address system and another strange voice that appears to be emanating from the vents.
Secondly you have the “create” mode which lets you get into the nitty gritty of creation your own solo or multiplayer level to be added to the online section of the game. It lets you really create interesting new game styles with varying objectives in some incredible locations. Space stations, discos, bowling alleys and more, there is plenty of gameplay value in this section alone.
Finally, there is the “discover” mode. This has you go online and check out all the crazy user-generated games that other players have designed. Once you have completed the main story, there are hundreds of levels to play afterward. Mind you, these user-created missions are the hardest and most diverse that you will ever play.
This game looks pretty good, it got a really interesting and unique “cartoon” vibe that you see in Astroneer or Human Fall Flat. The game owns this specific brand of art style and everything compliments it fantastically. Thanks to it, the game manages to stay light despite the copious amounts of blood and dismemberment that you will witness.
The game is physics based, that means you better prepare yourself to get really angry at some points when something won’t move the way you want. When you are attempting to perform a complex surgery to remove a man’s ribcage and gain access to his heart, you may wind up flinging a hammer across the room and knocking over a table. These things happen in this game and you need to get used to it quickly.
If you are after a game that may infuriate you as much as delight you the look no further, this one has you covered.
