The Last Starship

The Last Starship is an amazing space game packed full of different features. It has elements of Rogue Likes, Ship Building, Systems Management and Fighting games all rolled into one. If you want to experience what it is like to be a ship captain down to the smallest details, this game will keep you entertained for hours.

Releasing in February

This game will release February 23rd, but the game has been in Early Access for some time. The developers have brought a host of popular games to Steam, and are actively using the advice given to them from players to make this game better.

Lots of borrowed themes

From the moment you start playing the game, it is very evident that The Last Starship has borrowed heavily from other games. It looks very similar to Faster Than Light, Rimworld, and others. The developers have clearly been inspired by other games in the creation of their own version. If you’ve played these other games, be prepared for a lot of similarities. The game is extremely heavily influenced by them.

The good news is that though this game has obvious similarities and inspirations from other games, it isn’t a carbon copy. It’s definitely worth checking out if you know you like this type of game, and are looking for something new to try.

Cartoon Style Graphics

The graphics have a cartoon style, again very similar to Faster Than Light. It’s a pleasant enough style to play in, with clear details and smooth animations. One small issue with this game is that the camera looking down on the graphics is top down style, but the walls are isometric. This makes placing items in certain locations very difficult. Since this game is currently in Early Release, we can hope that the developers are aware of this problem and will fix it in a final stage.

Free updates

One small but pleasant addition is that the developers pledge not to charge you for any future updates of the game. This is a pleasant surprise, since many game developers earn a living by charging a fee for every additional change to the game.

Hopefully there will be updates to the game, and this isn’t a way of saying that once complete, the game will never be updated again.

This game is still in early release, and lacks some polish in the beta version. It will be exciting to see what the final game looks like, and how much has changed after getting player feedback. While this game has a lot to offer and a seemingly endless amount of replay value—it’s also heavily inspired by games already available.
