A Castle Full of Cats? Where do I sign up? Immediately, you know a title like that is going to have an impact on the feline-adoring internet. It doesn't matter what the game is about, its genre, or how inspiring the gameplay may be. Fill a castle with cats, and the people will come. But as someone who likes to add a bit of critique regardless of how entertaining the title is, we should look at the game.

A Castle Full of Cats is a self-proclaimed 'Catvania hidden object game' where players will be on a mission to save cats in an enormous castle. There's an intense love of cats, with the game developers claiming to be the creature and the company named after felines. Indeed an entity this obsessed with cats will deliver a catlike experience that'll blow critics away and win player hearts and minds, right?

Click-a-Cat

Let's jump right to it and give a profoundly honest opinion here. This cat obsession these developers protrude seems to pull the wool over players' eyes. Starting to play A Castle Full of Cats immediately shows that the game is more of a child's coloring book than any revolutionary feline-based genre. The mechanics are elementary, and the narrative is downright cringing.

A Castle Full of Cats will present you with a series of colored images, where players will find cats hidden on the screen and click them. Your job is to see all the feline menaces on the page and then move on to the next stage. Anybody with an excellent eye will solve each level in 7 seconds. This mechanic is the bulk of gameplay right until the end.

Throughout the game, you'll interact with some lifeless NPC cats that tell stories about what they do in the castle, which at the core, is a cat. Some of them have funny costumes, and others will tie their dialogue into the game's lore, but it could be more inspired. If you're looking for something that will pique your interest throughout gameplay, you may have come to the wrong castle.

On the more positive side, A Castle Full of Cats is perfect for young children that need straightforward mechanics and a cutesy backdrop. The problem is that it feels the game needs to be marketed toward that demographic and tries to win an adult player base by mentioning that there are a bunch of cats. Still trying to figure out how well this will do here.

Feline Blue

It was when getting, towards the end of this review, I discovered that there's a predecessor to this game that is the same thing. That title received an overwhelmingly positive response from its community, leaving me wondering where I stand with a critical analysis. Perhaps the internet loves cats so much that they don't care how basic the game is; they want to click on adorable felines.

I'll stick by my consensus in saying A Castle Full of Cats is a bland experience from a gameplay perspective. It still needs the puzzle-solving entertainment of Dogs Organized Neatly. However, I need help understanding the mechanical genius of the 'Catvania hidden object game' genre.

Round-Up - Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • A cutesy title that every cat lover will want to play
  • Straightforward find-and-click gameplay great for kids
  • The silliness will entertain plenty of people

Cons:

  • Visually the title will frustrate
