Upcoming indie game AWAY: The Survival Series, is a title developed by Breaking Walls, and published by Game Seer Volume. With a release date set for September 28, 2021 gamers from PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Windows can expect an immersive experience into the wilderness. This one of a kind title will derive its gameplay from real life documentaries surrounding nature, giving the players the chance to feel the experience of life in the jungle.
In The Mighty Jungle
If you have ever wondered how small animals survive in such treacherous environments AWAY: The Survival Series is the game for you.
Players take the point of view of a tiny sugar glider as he navigates dangerous environments with the intent to save his own family. Not much is known about actual gameplay yet, but from what developers have shared a big part of the game revolves around exploration, flying, and surviving through fight or flight situations.
AWAY: The Survival Series is a beautiful game. The places we see and visit come alive in spectacular fashion, confirming that veterans behind Breaking Walls studios have a lot of experience in world-building. Here the colors come alive, the details from animal designs, the foliage, and backgrounds are remarkable, which really adds to the documentaries that inspired the game.
The Animal Kingdom
Navigating the jungle seems like a fun adventure, and if visuals and performance are any indicative of what is to come, this will be one smooth game. As you survive you are tasked with adapting to circumstances, and choosing the best approaches to any given encounter versus different predators. Players can also take a stealthy approach to avoid unwinnable fights. And of course, hunting to survive is paramount to any game that tries to emulate how to survive in the jungle
Players can also expect different challenges based on different animals. The game has confirmed that beetles, lizards, crabs and other animals will be playable. The catch is that they are hidden and function as a type of collectible through the game. To cap the entire experience off, AWAY: The Survival Series introduces a unique feature that actually sees your moves and journey narrated, exactly as if you were being filmed and accompanied by a documentary crew. This alone is a fun idea, and one that hasn’t really been explored in the gaming industry until now.
Conclusion
The game hasn’t been officially released, but it has already won four awards: “Most Adaptable”, “Selection at Gamescom 2021”, “Best In Play” and “Best Business Promising”.
This should be enough for gamers to keep an eye out on this title. Truly there isn’t any fair comparison here, but for those excited for the upcoming Stray game, or who enjoyed playing as animals in Goat Simulator, Untitled Goose Game, or Maneater this experience should feel fresh, casual and fun.
