Barbie Super Model

Barbie Super Model is an arcade game geared towards small children, naturally starring the internationally known Barbie.

As you would guess, the goal of the game is to help Barbie perform various tasks in an arcade game fashion. Each level begins with her daydreaming about her day as she is about to write in her journal; next you get to reenact that day.

Barbie Super Model consists of several levels in distinct areas, each with its own design. The graphics are nicely done, although more could have been done to improve the visuals, even considering the time when it was released. The animations can be a little stiff and the scenery repetitive, but overall passable. The music and sound are also nothing special, other than some beeps and a few tracks. To sum up, the “packaging” could have been better.

The gameplay has four elements. At the beginning of each level you control Barbie as she drives, walks, skates or rides a bike and you must avoid all obstacles while collecting bonus items. It may sound easy, but you get only four lives (although you can collect more throughout the stage) and no continues; this means that if you lose all lives, you must start over. The score has no impact during gameplay, but you are required to gather a certain number of points in order to advance to the next level.

Collecting bonus items takes you to a bonus stage which tests your memory. You are first shown a magazine cover to which you must match Barbie’s appearance, either clothing or make-up. The only downside here is that she has an incredible number of outfits and accessories, so while it is not difficult in itself, it can take some time to find the correct one.

At the end of the arcade stage, you get to practice Barbie’s catwalk moves by pressing buttons in sequence. You may do this as many times as you like until you are sure you remember the sequence. After practicing, you must return the same way you came and finally use the moves you just learned during the actual fashion show.

To conclude, Barbie Super Model is not terribly difficult, but then again, it is tailored to young children. Overall, it is nothing special, but it should be enough to keep a child entertained for some time.

Barbie's set her sights on becoming a world-famous fashion model. She cruises the streets in her pink convertible, making important pit stops to learn how to dress, use makeup, pirouette down the runway, and other modeling skills.

The graphics and sound aren't top quality, and the action is very slow. Barbie's car crawls down the highway and she leisurely skates down the beach. Unless you're a novice, the game play is too simplistic. But, hey, if you're looking for a gift for your little sister, and Barbie's her best bud, this game may be just the ticket. Then again, maybe not.

Barbie Super Model is a one to two players; horizontal scrolling game released in 1993 by Tahoe Software Productions and Hi Tech Expressions. The goal is to dress the blond hair, blue-eyed queen of style, Barbie. However, in order to achieve your goal, you must first avoid the many roadblocks that stand in the way. The main portion of the games arcade style sequences is that each level moves from one end to the other – on a horizontal scrolling surface. Each level is divided into separate themes that include helping Barbie drive her convertible, ride her bicycle, roller skate, and travel through cold snow. This entertaining and creative adventure will test your knowledge and memory skills. At the half way point of each level, you can practice moves for a fashion show and at the end of each level, you will be tested on your ability to perform those moves by memory. By picking up various items, you are able to uncover special levels. This fun –filled game is compatible with the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis and Super Nintendo Entertainment Systems.
