Why has it taken so long for Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection to come to STEAM? I am not sure, but the game is finally making its way to PC so you can have a fun time and be frustrated as all hell, throw your controller, and then decide you will play just one more game. This is an absolute classic series from Capcom and it is pretty damn awesome what they have done here.
Hanging Out In The Graveyard
If you have played any of the games from this series you know what the deal is with the story. Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection sees us playing as the heroic Arthur and his lady has been kidnapped after they had just got it on (well what elsewhere they doing?) and now he must venture through the demon realm to save his true love.
Brutal With A Huge B!
One of the things that this series is known for is its very hard difficulty and Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is no different. The game has different difficulty levels and if you die so many times, it will ask you if you want to lower the difficulty. Each stage has checkpoints, but do not be fooled, this game is just as hard as the originals on the NES and Sega back in the day.
Some might say that some of the enemy placement is “cheap” and I get that. The thing with this kind of game is that you have to just keep on playing it to get good at it and more importantly learn the enemy placement.
Arthur Is Jacked!
One feature that I think is really cool about this game is that you can actually upgrade Arthur as you progress. In the original games, you could get new armor that would make your attacks stronger and that is a similar thing to what we have here. Arthur can upgrade his various skills and magic abilities and he has eight weapons that he can use. I like the way Arthur can be improved as it gives the game more depth and can help you with a tricky section.
Monster Slaying With Friends
Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection features a 2-player co-operative mode which is cool. One player gets to play as Arthur and the other can pick from Barry, Kerry, and Archie and they have their own abilities that can help to get through the game. Playing a game like this with a friend will have you laughing together one minute and then arguing over whose fault it was you failed the next. Like the original, if you want to beat the game, you need to play through it twice. This time though, the second playthrough has the levels changed up quite a bit.
Now You Are Playing With Mega Power
I remember playing the original game on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis for my USA friend) and being blown away at how much better than the NES it looked. Then came the SNES game and that looked even better. This series does not get the credit it deserves in regards to the visuals if you ask me. With Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection they have really outdone themselves. Capcom has remade some of their classics and this one is one of the better-looking games. All of the art looks like it is hand-drawn and the real pinnacle of this is that opening graveyard stage.
If you enjoy this series there is no reason not to play this game. It is bringing the classic back and giving it just a little bit of modernization. The game is brutally tough and really going to test your gaming skills, but fans would not want anything less. Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection is another fantastic remake/reboot of a Capcom classic and now you can play it on your PC, oh, it is worth noting that it is also coming to PlayStation and Xbox too.
Pros:
- The classic is back for a new generation!
- I love the way it feels familiar
- The visuals are amazing
- This game is hard as nails, but it feels so satisfying when you get through a level
Cons:
- This game may be too tough for some
- Perhaps a few extra new features would have been nice
