I have played many puzzle games, but Weaving Tides is perhaps one of the most interesting ones that I have come across in a very long time. What grabbed me about this game was the art style and the fact that you ride on dragons too! It has a very unique style to it and it is something that truly grabbed my attention the first time I saw it.
Weaving Together A Narrative
If you enjoy games that have a deep story and a lot of lore to the world, they are set in then I think the tale that Weaving Tides is trying to tell is going to be one that ticks all of the boxes in regards to what you are looking for. Our main character is a young guy called, Tass. Tass is on a quest to try and find his parents, but the strange world he is living in is being pulled apart at the seams (literally) so as well as finding his folks, he is also thrust into the role of the hero in regards to saving the land too.
The Crafted World
I feel that in 2021, it is impossible to look at a game like Weaving Tides and not think of games like Yoshi’s Wooly World or even that Kirby game that used a similar kind of art style on the Nintendo Wii. This is a great-looking game and in terms of “style”, it is one of the most eye-catching games that I have seen in 2021. The way that the world is made of tapestry is just so cool and while not unique, I feel it is done in a way here that gives it its very own style. I love the way there is a lot of diversity to this land from the above-ground areas that can be bright and colorful to the dark and scary dungeons that are below.
Reuniting The Dragons
The whole dragon's aspect of Weaving Tides is one of the things that I find the coolest about the game. There is Kilim a dragon that can weave together the world to try and make it whole again. Twill, the ranged stitcher that can quickly put together the world that lays in front of you. Luce, is a dragon that is more about power and getting a lot done at once. You will need to use the right dragon that you feel fits your play style.
The Legend Of Weaving
While the whole tapestry thing that the game has going on is really cool, I think the fact that the developers were inspired by games like The Legend Of Zelda really does shine through in the game design. This is most notable when you enter the dungeons and have to figure out puzzles and make your way through it all the while getting ready to face a boss at the end.
I really do not want to call, Weaving Tides just another puzzle game as I feel it is offering far more than just puzzles. You have exploration, combat, dungeons and there is a fantastic story that “weaves” it all together and helps keep you invested in what Tass has going on. It is fantastic stuff and I am sure this is going to be a game that features on many people's 2021 game of the year lists at the very least in terms of the way the game looks.
