Gori: Cuddly Carnage

At first glance, Gori: Cuddly Carnage doesn’t look like it makes sense. The main character is a cat, the enemies are gun toting unicorns that fire slime at you. Your goal is to fly around on a jet powered skateboard in a cyberpunk world and kill unicorns among other things.

If you mixed the creepy toys of Five Nights at Freddy’s with a skateboarding game like Tony Hawk’s Pro-Skater, and set it in a sci-fi themed backdrop, you’d have Gori: Cuddly Carnage.

Beautiful Graphics

One of the first things players may notice when starting the game is the spectacular graphics the game opens with. Gori: Cuddly Carnage utilizes the Unreal Engine, and brings both excellent graphics to the table, but also extremely smooth animation. Although the cutscenes show off the graphics to the best effect, the game itself has stunning backdrops and beautiful designs as well. The game is rated as mature and is very gory, with buckets of blood splashing everywhere each time you cut open a weird toy with your hoverboard blades.

Adapting Sound

The sound in this game is also extremely well done. The music changes depending on what you’re doing and your playstyle. The game senses what you are doing, such as chaining together repeated attacks or landing a difficult move on your skateboard and plays music accordingly. This definitely adds to the mood of the game and makes skateboarding around as a cute little kitty even more fun.

Decent tutorial

Flying while murdering shooty-corns and other defective toys is hard work. Fortunately, you’re not simply thrown into the mayhem. The game offers a tutorial first that allows you to get the hang of flying, bouncing on hearts, and other features before you’re thrown into action. It’s definitely worth taking your time on the tutorial and learning how to land different moves, as the game holds nothing back once the tutorial is over.

Hilarious Dialogue

Punctuated throughout the game are funny cutscenes between Gori’s robots and Gori himself. Be prepared to use headphones or not play when children are present, because the game is heavily punctuated with swearwords. Although it’s marginally beeped out, the beeping is mainly for humor and leaves nothing to the imagination.

Unknown Release Date

At this time the Steam page only says the game will be released, “When the Unicorns Allow it.” The game can be supported on Patreon in the meantime, as well as wishlisted. Alpha plays have been offered at the beginning, to very promising results.

Gori: Cuddly Carnage is a unique game that doesn’t fit well into any particular genre. In order to enjoy playing it, you’ll need to set aside your normal expectations for a game. Gori: Cuddly Carnage isn’t your average plot and is filled with a lot of crazy things that don’t make sense.
