There's something unbelievable eerie about the upcoming Hello Neighbor 2. Perhaps that it pairs upbeat graphics with a mystery surrounding a character that looks like your creepy uncle. Frustratingly, the original game wasn't up to scratch despite its hype. Whatever gets the hairs on your arms rising, it's not going to deter us from playing the sequel!
Hello Neighbor 2 doesn't have a planned release date. However, we have been treated to the alpha version of the game. We can safely say that it's bringing much more of that thrilling experience that its predecessor gave us - with a few added bells and whistles. So what's going to get you on the edge of your seat in Hello Neighbor 2?
So what was fascinating about the first offering? It brought a shared feat of suburban life into a video game form. We've all got that mysterious next-door 'friend' that does a few odd things. And we sit there and wonder whether he's got something to hide from the rest of us. That premise much translates into Hello Neighbor 2. However, this time, it's a whole new narrative.
You'll play as an investigative journalist looking to unveil the secrets that nobody in the area would dare look into. Players face off with their Neighbor, who tries to protect the reason why he's heading off to an amusement park every night. Recovering this information requires getting around each level undetected, but it's by no means easy.
Hello Neighbor 2 adds an AI neural network that learns from player interactions. Avoiding the Neighbor becomes increasingly difficult considering that no route or action they take is the same. While that makes the game challenging, it can be rather irritating as well. Sometimes, there's no strategic way to plan out your course of action as everything can change.
Having said that, we'll say that Hello Neighbor 2 is a vast improvement over the predecessor. It fixes bugs, lags and provides a more extensive world to work with. Though unfinished, the narrative feels stronger as well. It's more immersive and does help players feel more engaged with their actions. So far, a decent stealth horror game.
Just Your Friendly Neighborhood Secrets
Hello Neighbor 2 reminds players of Outlast in the sense that the theme and gameplay are similar. However, the visual aesthetics are vastly different, procuring more of a cheery vibe than a horror atmosphere. That's what's unique and enjoyable about the game thus far, but it still has a ways to go to make up for the first mess.
The alpha offers some entertaining moments, decent gameplay, and impressive AI. However, that does lead to frustration as you continue. Much of Hello Neighbor 2 you feel is a crapshoot. That shouldn't deter players from trying, though. It's still in alpha, and more feedback from users can help shape a much more intriguing stealth horror game.
