Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan

I have to say that Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan is possibly the most charming and thoughtful game I have experienced in 2021. One of the first things that you need to know about this game is that it does have a free demo so be sure to check that out as it is a great demo that does a good job of letting you know what this game is about. While the game can be enjoyed by people of all ages, this is the kind of game that I personally will have a lot of fun playing through with my son.

Bringing Color Back To The World

The whole game has a very positive message to it and that is something I love. The world that Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan is set in has lost much of its colors and the inhabitants are not sure of themselves and they need a lot of help in getting back their color and feeling at peace with who they are.

The way the game deals with acceptance and helping others is awesome and it does it in a very non-preachy kind of way. Yes, you are out to save the world like in most other games, but I think there is a lovely message at play here too which really shines through thanks to the great writing.

Bring Me To Life!

Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan is a 2.5D style of game and this game certainly has a ton of style. The game world is very imaginative and has a ton of charm to it. This might be one of the nicest looking and most charming games that I have had the pleasure to play in 2021. The world has been turned into darkness and you need to bring color back to it. It is done very well and it is the kind of thing I am having a hard time getting across, but once you see the trailer, it is impossible not to fall in love with this game.

There is a charming cast of characters here, these little critters that need your help all have a ton of personality and the way you help them by bringing color back to them helps you feel more connected to them.

Using Your Brains And Your Hops

The gameplay on offer in Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan is a lot of fun. You will be exploring these levels and taking on tasks from the various characters that you come across and you can solve these problems with platforming, puzzle solving, collecting stuff, and nonviolent means.

That is right, this is a game that is designed with solving problems in a non-violent way and helping people by listening to them and emphasizing with them. I just find the whole gameplay on offer here incredibly sweet.

If you want a nice platformer to play through then they do not get much nicer than Rainbow Billy: The Curse of the Leviathan. This is the kind of game that I would love for my son to play. I am not saying that this is just a kid’s game as in all honesty, the message being given by this game can be taken on board by anyone. I just feel it is a very adorable game and the kind of game I know that put a big smile on my face while I was checking it out.

Pros:

  • The story here really is very charming
  • I liked the whole message of positivity and helping others the game had
  • There is a good mixture of platforming and puzzle solving
  • The game looks fantastic

Cons:

  • It might be a tad too “sweet” for some people
  • I am not sure it is the kind of game I would play through multiple times
