Unreliable Narrator

Like many great horror games, In Sound Mind is a game that preys on the player’s perception of reality. The protagonist of the game wakes up in a seemingly impossible building. This labyrinthian place seemingly has a mind of its own, and soon leads the player to discover a series of grisly murders, all sharing the same basic characteristics.

Now, it’s up to you to solve the mysteries that plague the old, crumbling building. You’ll not be alone, however, as a cat named Tonia will help you finding clues, and avoiding the dangers that lurk in every shadow. And yes, you can absolutely pet the cat.

Developed by the same team responsible for the incredible Nightmare House 2 mod, In Sound Mind delivers a survival horror experience that feels like this game was made during the heyday of the Resident Evil and Silent Hill series.

Keep Moving

One of the most fascinating things about In Sound Mind is its ability to constantly modify its gameplay. The game is divided into a series of smaller stories, each with its own set of rules and gameplay mechanics.

What this means is that the player can never get too comfortable with how the game’s played, having instead to quickly adapt to each of the ghoulish situations the game comes up with.

Just as is the case in some of the best survival horror games out there, puzzles play an integral part in In Sound Mind. Together with the ever-changing gameplay mechanics, players will have to think fast if they hope to beat the horrors presented in this game. And there are plenty of horrors to see in In Sound Mind.

Ghosts and Tombstones

From moving mannequins to ghostly apparitions, there are some impressive enemy designs to be found in this game. And that’s not even mentioning the fact that this game has some of the coolest boss designs we’ve seen in a survival horror game in a while.

The game’s impressive visuals and wonderful use of lights and shadows are simply sublime, evoking a sense of sheer eeriness that’s difficult to match. The outstanding soundtrack, made by The Living Tombstone, is the cherry on top of this survival horror sundae. And, trust thus, this is one dessert that you’re going to love.

In many aspects, In Sound Mind looks and feels like the Alan Wake sequel we never got, and that’s just perfect for fans of the horror genre that are desperate for a game that’s a completely new IP.
