Simulation games are always pretty interesting since they all share the same basic concept, it is all about the way they put the idea into action that really matters. These differences can be minimal like basic economic changes, but they can also affect entirely the idea you might have about the genre. Settlement Survival might seem just like any other city-building game at a quick glance, but there's much more than this to it. So, what's up with Settlement Survival, and what makes it unique? Well, let's talk about it.
About the game
In many of these city-building games, you get to build a city while taking care of the economy, the environment, and the happiness of your citizens.
But Gleamer Studios is coming up with a different take on the whole civilization-building thing, combining two genres that are rarely if ever thought of together. Settlement Survival presents a situation of combining city-building with survival, and it's rocking a distinctive art style.
Don't let the colorful, low-poly visuals of Settlement Survival fool you into thinking this will be a peaceful experience. You play as the leader of a group of survivors that are set to make it in the wilderness and start a new community to live in. This of course means you have to organize the gathering of raw materials for building, but also the resources like food and water. You are also in charge of shelters and the survival of your group.
If you're successful it will mean you'll be able to set up a basic settlement suited for survival, but this brings different challenges. If your settlement is successful enough, your group of survivors will begin to expand. And soon enough you'll be taking care of an entire town, and later on a city. The problem is that you'll still have to find the resources needed but not only this, but there are also environmental issues, harsh weather, and many more situations that will have you making tough choices all the time.
A full survival game?
In games like Cities: Skylines, there's also the theme of gathering resources, but they can further expand through commerce and economy, and the citizens are usually capable of feeding themselves and all that. In Settlement Survival, the element of survival is right at the core of the gameplay experience. It can be a little tough of a learning curve, but you'll get used to it in a matter of time.
The full game is coming up real soon, but as of now, you can already get started by playing the already available demo. Settlement Survival presents us with an interesting concept with seemingly great development. The mechanics are a little overcomplicated and this turns the game into a small mess most of the time.
It can be confusing even if you're really paying attention and following the tutorial. for this learning curve, the game can become tedious even once you've grasped all the complex basics of the game.

- Comfy visuals
- Complex survival mechanics
