The Sims 4: Discover University

The Sims 4: Discover University was the eighth expansion pack for this game. Say what you want about EA, but man they supported the hell out of this game and the support is still going as I write this. I am not sure I could for sure say what my favorite expansion is, but this one would have to be in the conversation. It is one of the expansions that I spent a ton of time with so I thought it would be fun to share my thoughts on it with you guys.

What School To Go To?

In The Sims 4: Discover University, you have two universities that you can choose to go to. You can decide to go to the University of Britechester which is a school that is more for the artsy type of subjects or you can go to Foxbury Institute which is a school that is more aimed at those looking to do more science related courses. The ultimate goal here is to get a degree in your chosen field and then get a good job, but as is the case with all Sims games and expansions there is far more than that here.

Campus Life

The way that you will be earning your degree in The Sims 4: Discover University is by making sure you are earning your credits by going to class at the right time and doing your assignments. You also have other extracurricular activities to do as well and of course, you have to manage your ever so important social life as well. In all honesty, it is a lot to keep track of and it can be so easy to miss a class here and there, I do wish the UI was a little better at keeping you on track, but to be fair I think this is by design as it is about teaching these college kids responsibilities!

The Kids And Adults Are All Right!

You may think that it is only high school aged Sims in The Sims 4: Discover University can go to university, but that is not the case. Older Sims can also go back to school if they want to change their career. I actually did this with one of my Sims and he ended up becoming an author after getting a literary degree, off the top of my head I think there are 13 degrees that you can get and each one is tied to some kind of good paying job so there is a clear goal for you here which is something I do like.

Big Wolf On Campus

Overall, I think the whole presentation of The Sims 4: Discover University is a lot of fun. The Sims is a game series that I have always liked as far as its style goes and this expansion is no different. It is a humorous take on college life and I got a real kick out of some of the references to classic college style shows and movies. Of course, there are plenty of new outfits and stuff for you to get for your Sims as well which is always something we like to see.

8.5

I had a blast with this expansion and really do think that it is one of the better ones. I know that we have had college expansions for The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 and this one certainly borrows more than a few ideas from those. However, I think that The Sims 4: Discover University has taken what those other games did and made it just a better overall experience. Of course, you do need to have the base game of The Sims 4 to play this and already be pretty invested in that, but if you are, I do not doubt that you will have a lot of fun with this expansion.

Pros:

  • It is a fun “Sim” take on college life
  • I like how there is a clear progression from starting to getting a degree
  • There are many different courses that you can do
  • There are plenty of new things to get your Sim to wear and collect

Cons:

  • I wish it was a bit more forthcoming about letting you know when you have a class
  • You do have to already be invested in the world of the Sims 4 to get into this
