As the name Total War: ROME REMASTERED tells you, this is a remaster of the classic, Rome Total War game which was a huge and I mean huge hit. It spawned many popular sequels and while that original game is still very popular, it was released back in 2004. Now, they have been hard at work remastering this game to give it a new look and gameplay improvements to make long-time fans week at the knees.

Ruling The Empire

The story of the game is great, basically, you are trying to rule the Roman Empire and there is a nice and long campaign that you can really get invested in. Total War: ROME REMASTERED does also include the Barbarian Invasion and Alexander DLCs as well. The new level of 4K polish added here really does make it a more cinematic experience.

I Got That 4K

Ok, even if you do not have a 4K display the leap in the visuals from the original is just staggering. The game has buildings and objects that have been completely remodeled to make them look more realistic. The campaign maps really do pop thanks to the much more detailed models that are used here.

I also really like the environmental effects that the game has as well such as dust and a haze when it is hot. Total War: ROME REMASTERED looks like a brand-new game, this is not just the original with the resolution upped. They truly went above and beyond with the visuals of this game.

16 Factions Have Entered The Battle

They have added way more to the gameplay than I thought that they would. The most notable thing if you ask me, is the factions. The game already had a solid number of factions for you to make use of. They have kicked that up a few notches here by adding in 16 new factions to the game. These were locked away in the original game, but now thanks to these you have 38 playable factions!

Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life

While I have a lot of fond memories of the original, The Total War series had many quality-of-life improvements as it moved on. I appreciate that with Total War: ROME REMASTERED they have brought many of these over to this game. It now plays more like a modern strategy game. You have more control over the camera, the UI is very easy to figure out and in general, the game is just much smoother to play.

I love the Total War series and it was awesome to see them go back and give the original a whole lot of love. I think what is great about Total War: ROME REMASTERED is that people who played the original will love the various updates. These do not take away from the original, they actually make it better.

Also, anyone who missed out on this back in the day, you are way better playing this new version than the original as it is a much smoother and dare, I say, overall better experience. It is also worth noting if you have the original version on your Steam account, you can get this remastered version for half-price. Also, you get the Rome: Total War Collection included with this too!
