Based on the beloved Pixar series, Toy Story Mania is a game filled with mini-games and galleries that are a fun-filled ride for the entire family. All of your favorite characters, including Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Ham, are here to help you explore a theme park-style set of games inspired by the 4-D Toy Story experience. Enjoy a vast collection of mini-games that can be played by players of all ages for hours on end.
Here’s everything you need to know about Toy Story Mania.
There’s a ton of mini-games to get into in Toy Story Mania. Compared to other minigame based titles, Toy Story Mania boasts a series of games that can be played by pretty much anyone at any age or skill level. They’re all nicely paced with very few tough mechanics and inspire lighthearted competition that can keep you and the rest of your family engaged.
The main drawback is that there is no real story to grab you and get your exploring. You just pick what you want to play and begin. This approach can ultimately feel a bit dry.
All of Your Favorite Characters
Toy Story Mania is jam-packed with iconic characters from the legendary Pixar movie series. Woody and Buzz are joined by a ton of fan-favorites, including Ham, Mr. Potatohead, the toy soldier army, Little Bo-Peep and Slinky Dog to name a few. Each character hosts their own set of galleries and mini-games for you to participate in. This is as far as the game goes, however, to capture the magic of the movies and theme park. Toy Story Mania could have done better with some bespoke voice acting and maybe a few story bits to help make the game less shallow.
A Carnival For None
What Toy Story Mania attempts but ultimately fails to achieve is to give you the feeling of entering the 4-D Toy Story attraction at the Disney parks. The mini-games are fun and work quite well, especially for younger players but there is nothing to connect them to each other. This makes the game quite shallow and cold in its approach. Even tie-in Toy Story games have had more depth and engagement.
The Bottom Line
If you’re looking for a series of mini-games with a Toy Story theme then Toy Story Mania does that quite well. However, if you’re looking to bring the magic of Pixar’s toy world to your gaming screen, then this game will disappoint you.
There’s no story or narrative to flesh out the concept and the characters feel lifeless because of a lack of good voice acting and story bits.
- Lots of Toy Story mini-games if you’re a fan of the movies
- Plenty of content to explore in the galleries
- No story or narrative to tie things together
- Feels like a cheap cash-in rather than a game worthy of the Toy Story label
- Won’t really resonate with older gamers
