Avengers

Marvel’s Avengers is one heck of a game and I think that it got an unfairly poor rep after release. Jump right into the Marvel madness with the Avengers, Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Thor, the Hulk, and some new characters thrown in for good measure. This title is a blast to play, switching things up in whatever way you see fit to recreate the Avengers in a way that suits your playstyle is fantastic. If you are looking for a brilliant game based on one of history’s most successful franchises, then you’re going to love this.

Gameplay

The gameplay is pretty straightforward. It handles like a third person Destiny, or a less open world Spider-Man (2018). You take control of your Avengers and set them up with the skills and abilities that suit the way you like to play and set them to work. You take control of the characters and smash, blast, or punch your way through the endless waves on enemies in this unique story created just for this game. This lets players get into the nitty gritty of their selected characters from the roster. Much like in Injustice: Gods Among Us, you design exactly what loadout you want your Cap or Hulk to have, and see exactly how those bonuses from armor items come into play.

The majority of the game takes place through the lens of a fighting game. You are often tasked with holding an area while waves of enemies come for you, it’s a fun and easy way of allowing the combat to keep flowing. It also keeps things tense for when you might be struggling a little and you need to play creatively to keep yourself alive.

Visuals

The visuals of this game are great. Initially, the title had a few glitches but those have all been squared away and the game runs smoothly now. You can take control of any of the Avengers and dive into a fully realized world filled with incredible missions that all look stunning. The plants look fresh and alive, deserts look arid and sparse of life, even the space missions are beautiful to behold. It all looks so shiny that you’ll often have moments where you catch yourself just staring at things, looking around and enjoying the world.

Story

The story follows the Avengers as they reach their lowest point. Captain America has seemingly been killed in a terrorist attack that cripples the Avengers and causes them serious issues in regards to the court of public opinion. Having turned their backs on their former ways, they must all be rounded up and brought back to save the world when young Kamala Khan shows them that they are still needed.

Its up to Kamala and the Avengers to put a stop to the villain MODOK and his terrible ways, and bring the beloved team back together again for the betterment of humanity.
