With Battle Cry of Freedom players will have the chance to re fight the war, for either the Union or Confederates, and take their tactical combat skills to the battlefield where bravery and strategic planning is the only hope of winning the war. Tactfully organize your troops, choosing where to send your riflemen, artillery, cavalry and more to overcome and out strategize your enemy.

Cunning alone won’t be enough to determine who will rule the United States of America, you must utilize the strengths and weaknesses of your units, while keeping in mind strategic forts and landscapes all the while protecting your flank. Battle Cry of Freedom is a must buy for those history fans who love to pour over the details from the American Civil War, only now they get to fight the battles themselves.

Gameplay

Set in the latter half of the nineteenth century in the United States (not so united during this war however) the game incorporates the weaponry and technology of the time in an authentic way, which adds to the overall enjoyment by players. Even if you don’t know squat about the American Civil War, this game is entirely amusing for all fans of the war-combat genre of gaming, such as the Total War Games.

Utilizing your musket men, artillery, close quarter weapons such as bayonets and sabres, each unit has strengths and weaknesses and it’s up to you to utilize each accordingly to prevail in each battle. You can enjoy this game in many ways, massive online multiplayer battles with up to 400 players fighting instantaneously, AI controlled battles with 800 soldiers, or enlist in one of the army branches and control a single soldier across the bloody battlefields.

Game Features

As mentioned in the gameplay portion, there are various ways in which you can enjoy this game. With online multiplayer and AI bot battles your tactical strategy is of utmost importance, commanding your ranks properly can mean life or death for your soldiers. But there is also a few in game features which you might want to play to get first hand experience from the front line. You are able to enlist in one of three branches of the army: Infantry, Artillery and Specialist classes. As an infantryman you will join your regiment with fellow rifleman fighting on the front line, Artillery core has you in a support role behind the lines, raining hell down upon your enemy, and as a Specialist you will join the Engineer Corps where it is imperative that you build defensive measures, bridges, railroads and more to achieve total victory.

Pros:

• Authentic historically accurate setting, technology and weaponry, with accurate battle grounds and features.
• Command and control of your army on a massive scale (regarding multiplayer functions) is done perfectly, giving you sole responsibility for the gains and losses you face.

Cons:

• The only foreseeable con would be the grainy aspect in the visuals, however on such a large scale map/location it doesn’t seem to be a major problem by any means.
