Dead Realm takes the same concept and adds a ghostly spin to it. In many ways, the game is comparable to a virtual game of hide-and-seek where one player, the Ghost, must seek out and haunt the human players who, in turn, must avoid them until the time runs out

Hide and Boo

Dead Realm is as ghostly an experience as it gets. Up to 8 players can participate in a match, with one taking on the role of the Ghost. The rest of the players, the Humans, must hide from the Ghost and avoid becoming haunted.

If a Human is unfortunate enough to become haunted, they turn into a ghost themselves and can seek out other humans. Despite sounding simplistic, the game’s atmosphere makes the experience incredibly visceral and creepy. Hiding from the Ghost is tough so you’ll have to keep your wits about you lest you end up getting jump scared.

Multiple Options

Just like other games in the subgenre, Dead Realm offers a multitude of options. There are 9 immersively terrifying maps to play your ghostly game of hide-and-seek in, ranging from spooky mansions to open-spaced mazes and claustrophobic corridors. The map variety alone adds quite a bit of depth to the game’s skill ceiling. There are also several different types of ghosts to choose from, each with their own unique abilities, such as floating through walls and stunning humans. Further customization can be used to enhance Humans and Ghosts to make their capabilities fit any playstyle.

Modes Galore

Dead Realm features 5 different game types, each with their own spin on the title’s hide-and-seek formula. Each mode has its own set of rules that emphasize different skills and aspects of the game’s formula. One mode, for instance, places a focus on teamwork by forcing Humans to stick together and use their abilities to slow the Ghost down. Another mode necessitates the use of stealth as the Ghost has more ways of detecting Humans when they move.

The Bottom Line

Dead Realm is an interesting take on the now popular asymmetric horror multiplayer subgenre. Its first-person perspective coupled with its spooky hide-and-seek gameplay makes it an intense and adrenaline-fueled experience that will keep you on your toes. It’s a shame that the title lost support from the developer last year.
