Can you think of a game in recent memory that had as bad a launch as Fallout 76 did? This game was a freaking mess when it was released? I am a massive and I mean massive fan of this series and I think that while it was far from great and something of a buggy mess. I do feel that Bethesda did try and try really hard to try and get this game back on track and I do actually think that in some ways they did. Today, I wanted to share my experience with this game with you to hopefully try and get you to either give it a try or go back and give it another try if at launch if you did not like it.

The Scorchbeasts!

The plot of Fallout 76 is actually really cool and something that before the game came out, I was pretty pumped about. The story once again has a vault opening (Vault 76) and this is actually a prequel for the series. The setting of the game is Appalachia which is kind of like West Virginia. You and the other survivors are tasked with rebuilding and repopulating society. However, an evil and destructive mutated race called The Scorched have laid claim to the land and you need to stop them.

A Real Motley Crew

Without a doubt, Fallout 76 is a game that you have to play with other people. While you can jump in and play this on your own. For me, what makes this such an interesting experience is playing as a group of survivors with your friends. Working together, sharing resources, and so on is all something that I think is a ton of fun and something that has kept me going back to the game (I have been playing on Xbox) and we do have fun with it. In the early days, the game had a real lack of direction when it came to the quests, but that is something they did improve over time.

Your Own Survivor!

As this is an online RPG, you have a lot of character customization to work on here and I like how Fallout 76 always keeps you moving forward to make your character better. You have various character attributes such as strength, endurance, luck, and intelligence to name a few. You get various stat points to improve your character as well as gear and so on The game also has this interesting card system and perks, passive abilities, and so on that, you can use as well. It feels like a fully fledged RPG and while there is a lot of stuff here to keep an eye on, it never felt overwhelming for me or my friends.

Setting Right What Once Went Wrong!

That was supposed to be a Quantum Leap reference, but to be honest with you, I am not sure if I have nailed it. Anyway, sadly many people just think of Fallout 76 as the buggy mess it was when it was first released. However, Bethesda has done great work in releasing interesting expansions, the Wasteland expansion was a massive step in the right direction and there have been others that have followed that.

I can see why some people played this when it launched, thought that it sucked, and vowed to never play the game again. Fallout 76 made a horrible first-impression and I have to say that I feel much of the anger and hate the game got at the start was deserved. However, they have done a great job to turn things around and make this a decent online RPG that me and my buddies still play once or twice a month.

Pros:

  • I liked the setting and premise of the main story
  • The content that has been released since launch has been good
  • It is a fun game to play with other people
  • I think that they have done well to turn this around

Cons:

  • This is one of the worst game launches I have ever experienced
  • While it is much better, there are still better online MMORPGs you can play
