Capcom developed and released two Outbreak games in their Resident Evil Series. "Resident Evil Outbreak File #2 is the last. Both launched on the PlayStation2 with Outbreak being launched in 2003 and the sequel in 2004. "Resident Evil Outbreak" was one of the first Resident Evil titles on PS2; however, it was a single-player game.
This Resident Evil game was one of Capcoms first attempts in creating a multiplayer experience within the Resident Evil world. It allows you to play with friends and choose characters that can support each other in the correct ways. Both Resident Evil Outbreak games held up as good games when released in 2003 and 2004. However, Resident Evil 4 came out in 2005, the beginning staple of creating the current Resident Evil games today.
The game's scenario selection is a great alternative in contrast to how other Resident Evil games are played. What makes it unique is that there are several scenarios you play through one at a time that connect the story. In contrast to having one long story with save points in certain points of the game. There are a total of 6 "scenarios," including the training. Before starting each one, you can choose the difficulty you want to play on and which character you would use for that scenario. There are eight playable characters, all with unique items and actions.
There is an unlockable outfit for each character. For the multiplayer aspect, each character's items and actions match up better or worse based on who you play. Each character has 2 or 3 allies they can match up with for ideal synergy between the items and actions. After each scenario, you will get a score between E (the worst) and S (the best). You can earn more points for your score by playing on more complex difficulties, retrieving special items from the map, and saving all survivors. Completing a "scenario" unlocks the next.
Should You Play "Resident Evil Outbreak File #2"
If you're a fan of the Resident Evil franchise and enjoy the gameplay of the older versions of the game, you would enjoy this game immensely. This game is a unique Resident Evil Game due to the fact that only a few Resident Evil games include multiplayer, and that the game went with scenarios as levels instead of one complete playthrough. It is a third-person shooter game that emphasizes survival and horror.. The dark environment filled with monsters is similar to "Remnant: From the Ashes" or "Metro 2033" However, with a more significant emphasis on survival. You must preserve ammo and supplies, for if you run out, you may find yourself stuck having to restart the scenario over.
I would give this game a personal rating of 6/10. It was an action-packed game with fun scenarios; however, it did not live up to how good the original "Resident Evil Outbreak" was. This game's player base is for a mature audience due to the language and violence. Even the original Outbreak game had better scenarios. I believe the fact that you can play with friends more than makes up for it. I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys the Resident Evil series or wants to play a horror shooter game coop with a friend.
