If you are someone who feels excited by the world we live in, with start-up culture so prominent, you might find upcoming release Startup Panic to be an intriguing title indeed. The game is being developed by Algo Rocks, and it looks like it could be quite an interesting take on the simulation genre. The title is set for release in early 2022, and already has some great information about it available for you to look into and learn about.
What do we know about Startup Panic? Well, you will be building a startup company from scratch. You will need to survive in a gruelling and competitive environment, and you will need to face off against rival CEOs from other firms.
Building your own business comes with a few challenges
So, the first thing we noted about Startup Panic is that it has a lot of interest and style. The 2D art style shines bright, and the modern and easy to work with menu system looks very easy to work with for just about anyone. On top of that, too, there is much to enjoy about the art of building up your own business. It looks simple and you can see tangible progress as you move from being a bedroom programmer to running your own office.
You build up the office, you add to it, you create changes, and you develop more for your tech start-up to do. The general premise is simple: build up a business and beat the competition to make sure your company comes out as number one. However, there is more to Startup Panic than this; it has a few setups that could be compared to something like the Evil Genius series, or even the Two Point Hospital game that was considered so exciting.
The game has a lot of comedy and whimsy for one, and you can involve yourself in some pretty insidious corporate espionage if you so choose. There are many ways to build-up your company in Startup Panic; some ethical, some less so.
An interesting take on the management sim genre (8/10)
There is a demo to try out for Startup Panic, and from what we have played this feels like a really satisfying game. With so many games like it, though, we already noticed a few things that feel repetitive or simply done better in other games of a similar style.
It has some limits to how far you can go at any one time, and there certainly felt like there were some artificial roadblocks in the way of progress.
The idea is simple, and some of the features like the double-edged sword loan system are very smart. There is, though, plenty more for us to see before we can judge Startup Panic. From the demo, it looks like a fun management game that might run into the usual issues regarding repetition in the mid-to-late game.
- Design style that looks great and can really capture a ‘Habbo Hotel’ style of design
- Easy to play with plenty of menu explanations and tutorials to keep you busy
- Plenty of ways to get through all of the numerous challenges that your start-up faces
- Repetitive gameplay loop that is common with titles like this is frustratingly present
