Tabletop Simulator is the game for you if you enjoy playing board games with your friends and family. This is such a unique and clever game and one that I have spent hours and hours playing with my buddies over the years. It is the kind of game where you can waste a whole evening playing it! Well, it is not actually a waste as you guys will be having an awesome time. This is not your typical collection of virtual board games that you may think it is so keep on reading to find out exactly what this has in store for you.
Packed With Basic Classics
Tabletop Simulator does come prepacked with a bunch of games for you to play. Off the top of my head, I think that there are around 15 to 20 games already here when you fire it up for the first time. These are pretty basic games such as checkers, dominos cards, and so on. While these can be fun, it is the Steam Workshop that really makes this such an amazing experience.
Your Favorite Game Off The Shelf
I think I may go as far as to say that Tabletop Simulator has some of the best use of any game that makes use of the Steam Workshop. This game lets you make your own games! If there is a game you love such as Monopoly, The Game of Life, Clue, and more, you will be able to find it here. One of my favorite games of all time is Hero Quest and there is a fantastic version of it available for you here. From all the classics to crazy games that people have made up, you will never be without something to play. Now, as these are made by random people, the quality of the games can be very different from game to game, but that is to be expected.
Knowing The Rules
You know if you buy one of these virtual Monopoly games or a virtual Hasbro board game compilation how the games are all in there with the rules all set? That is not the case with Tabletop Simulator. This is just like you are playing the games with your friends in real life. There is no “AI” keeping track of the rules, you have to govern and set up your own game and those who have disliked this tend to be people who did not understand that is what the case here is. From cheating to flipping the table, you can pretty much do what you want and it is up to you guys to keep track of it.
Playing With The Right People
With that in mind, the enjoyment you get out of Tabletop Simulator greatly depends on who you are playing with. Thankfully it is very easy to set up a session with your friends and family. However, you can also leave a session open and play with random people. I have had very, very few pleasurable experiences when playing with randoms, it is like people just go out of their way to be assholes and ruin it for everyone else.
I think that Tabletop Simulator is the best way to play virtual board games. It is a game that I played a great deal during the Covid-19 lockdown and even now, my friends and I fire this up a few times a month and have a great time. I will say that if you are interested in this game, you have to make sure that you have friends and family who are willing to play with you as playing with randoms is not all that fun.
