Bram The Toymaker

Bram the Toymaker is an indie horror game set in an 18th century village. You play Blake, a young man who discovers a journal in his home. This journal leads him to believe that his family may be somehow connected to Bram the Toymaker through a folktale about the evil man leaving toys out to lure children in for the kill.

Follow the clues through a massive old mansion to try and solve the mystery while also staying alive. The puzzles include escape room style puzzles, searching for missing objects, and a few other different types. Throughout you’ll also experience a few jumpscares.

Decent Graphics

With an indie game, it’s always a bit of a dice roll what sort of graphics you will get. While Bram the Toymaker’s graphics are nothing special, they’re also not terrible. It’s a well thought out little world with fairly nice graphics, improved with a spooky atmosphere.

You’ll be exploring an exquisitely appointed manor, a bit like Mystery Case Files: Ravenhearst, but the storyline divides from there to go on its own route.

Very Short gameplay

This game can be played through in under 2 hours. That’s a generous estimate. If you’re not glitched out of the game and forced to repeat it or you are better at solving puzzles than average, you may be done with this game in as little as 30 minutes.

The puzzles are also very easy to solve. Anyone can do them. This means you won’t be frustrated with a puzzle you can’t solve, but also it won’t take you much time to think your way through this.

Lots of bugs at this time

The game has been available for some time in a pre-release, which does an excellent job of showing you the game. Unfortunately, the game in its raw state has a lot of bugs in it. As just one example, if you try to place a mask before you have all 3 of them, the game will glitch and no longer be available.

The game can glitch at other times, and there’s also an annoying inertia in the game that makes it more difficult to move. While the goal is to make you feel dizzy/out of this world, it can make the game more difficult without really adding anything to it.

Spooky, but also funny

There are a few funny aspects to the game, as well as some minor horror. While there’s nothing beyond the jump scares and a spooky atmosphere to really make it scary, it’s still a fairly fun game. It’s a good game for those who enjoy a good scare, but also want to sleep without all the lights on after playing it.
