Dungeon & Fighter: OVERKILL is a spin off or a reboot of the popular Korean MMO. The series is massive and while it has never quite caught on over here in the West, this latest installment could be just what is needed to finally make it just as popular over here in the West. Now, as I write this there are not a ton of details about the game known, but I thought it would be fun to take a look at what they have shown off so far in the various teaser trailers they have released.

Almost Unreal!

If you have played the original game or even seen it, the presentation of Dungeon & Fighter: OVERKILL is going to be what captures your attention. This new game is being built in the Unreal Engine and the game is going full 3D and it looks fantastic. It does seem like it is retaining many of the features that the series is known for such as the fast-paced combat and awesome looking characters, but the visual presentation has been kicked up several notches. The change to 3D looks like it has been done very, very well managing to keep the spirit of the original game, without making things feel dated or over familiar.

Insane Combat

Many people have been pausing and slowing down the gameplay trailer of Dungeon & Fighter: OVERKILL to try and see all the little details and the combat looks truly insane. From a sassy looking cowboy chick with twin pistols, a mage with a giant pumpkin attack, a badass with a gatling gun type weapon, and more! There is sure to be a great selection of characters and if you have played the original game, you will no doubt notice more than a few returning favorites. Nothing has really been revealed about if this will be another MMO, a single player experience, or whatever. However, I did notice that at points in the trailer, it did look like many characters were moving together. At the same time, there were also scenes that made it look like a single-player adventure.

An Apocalyptic Fantasy World

The trailer that we have seen for Dungeon & Fighter: OVERKILL moves at a crazy fast pace, but they do a great job of showing off how varied this fantasy world they have created is. From a snowy looking area with a giant blue ice dragon, a sinister looking castle, your typical fantasy looking market, and more. I was very impressed with the amount of variety on offer here, it certainly makes me want to explore every inch of this incredible world that they have created.

Even though we know very little about Dungeon & Fighter: OVERKILL as I write this, I am very, very excited about this game. I only dabbled in the original release, but I think what they have done here looks very cool. Of course, there is another spin off from this franchise in the “project BBQ” project that is going on. I do think makes things a tad more confusing, but still, both of these look great, but I must admit, I am slightly more interested in what is being offered here than in the other spin-off game.

Pros:

  • The new 3D visuals look spectacular
  • The characters we have seen so far look like a ton of fun
  • This is going to be fun for those familiar with the franchise
  • It will also work very well as an introduction to the franchise as well

Cons:

  • They have been very stingy with the information so far; we know next to nothing about this game!
  • Will the other spin-off game, Project BBQ, make it confusing for players?
