Step away from the glamorous life of a professional soccer player and step into the shoes of a successful architect as you tackle some massive renovations in Stadium Renovator. While most soccer games will have you play as some sort of manager or team player, this game focuses on one of the most overlooked parts of the sport, which is who’s building and maintaining the stadiums.
As far as tycoon-type games go, Stadium Renovator has managed to find a considerable niche market and showcased the potential that lies behind its ambitious idea. However, is there any chance for such a specific game to find a fan following in the massive world of soccer games? Let’s see what Stadium Renovator promises to deliver once it’s finally released.
Building Goals
As the name of the game implies, your job in Stadium Renovator will be to procure and renovate arenas to return them to their former glory. This won’t be easy, though, as you’ll have to overlook every minute aspect to ensure every fan gets the sports experience they deserve.
Renovating a stadium is more complicated than just doing some weeding and applying a fresh coat of paint on the benches. Being a stadium renovator means that you’ll also have to take care of the arena’s public spaces, entrances, and even the security department. This takes the experience up a notch considered to more traditional sims like House Flipper.
Of course, as is the norm in every tycoon or simulation game of this kind, your main objective will be to keep a healthy cash flow. To do this, you’ll have to make sure to acquire more stadiums to renovate as you progress. In the end, the player is left with an immensely satisfying gameplay loop, especially if they like micromanaging in their games.
Not Your Everyday Sports Game
Unlike some fan-favorite soccer games like FIFA 22, Stadium Renovator will never ask you to play games in the arenas you have renovated. While some sports fans might find this baffling, it makes perfect sense for the type of audience this game is aiming for: this is an experience for any renovation fan to tackle.
A cursory look at some of the developer’s previous projects — like Train Station Renovation — will reveal that the focus in their games lies in the ability that the player is given to rescue run-down properties and turn them into profitable ventures.
Understandably, some players might be expecting some form of expanded gameplay after the renovations are done — fortunately, with the game still in active development, the possibilities are still endless when it comes to what sort of content we can expect from the final build of the game.
If you have even a passing interest in maintenance and tycoon sims, then definitely keep Stadium Renovator on your release radar — it just might be the kind of game you were always looking for.
Although somewhat limited in its scope, Stadium Renovator will certainly scratch the itch of players looking for a comprehensive renovating sim that also targets sports fans.
