Broken Pieces

To say that I have been hyped about Broken Pieces since I saw the initial trailer some time ago is a massive understatement. This has the feel of a game that could have been released in the 90s, but with modern graphics, storytelling, and game design! It offers a mystery/thriller type story with a bit of sci-fi thrown in there for good measure too. Plus, it features one of the most interesting female protagonists I have seen in a game in quite some time.

I Thought Moving To France Would Be Great!

The plot of the game is actually what I am most excited about. Broken Pieces takes place in a strange village on the French coast. Our heroine, Elise, and her husband to be, move here to get away from the crazy city life. However, this place is weird, it is like it is outside of time and there is a strange cult, weird creatures, and a real mystery about what this place is and what is going on. Elise knows that she has to find her way out of her before nightfall or she could be trapped forever!

Resident Evil 3.5!

I think that the visuals and overall style of Broken Pieces are like a brighter and more imaginative Resident Evil game. You move around in the 3rd person with different fixed cameras and you can also go into first-person when you want to explore a bit more. It is kind of hard to explain, but it works very well. We have the kind of control over Elise that we wished we had in the Resident Evil games that were released back in the 90s.

Solving The Mystery!

The gameplay of Broken Pieces has a lot going on. You have to explore this strange place and find various clues to let you know what is going on, what you need to do, and how you can survive. There is a tape player (it is the 90s!) that you can use to help you on your quest and there are many different puzzles that you will have to solve as you try to get Elise out of here. There is also a combat system in the game where you can use these abilities as well as firepower to try and fight off these evil looking creatures. In all, there is a great deal to the gameplay and while it does look challenging, it also looks like a great deal of fun too. I think exploring this interesting place is going to be awesome!

Style To Go With The Substance

I already talked about how the story has really grabbed me, but the execution of the story is something that I think Broken Pieces deserves a ton of credit for. The way the game looks gives you a movie like feel when you see and play it. I like how it is very cinematic and the quality of the cut scenes is great. The whole game looks great actually! I love this world that they have created and it truly does make you feel like you are in a place that is from a different or lost period of time.

Pros:

• Elise is one of the best female protagonists we have seen in a while
• I like the 90s vibes that the game has
• The whole story is fantastic and like you are playing through a movie
• There are many different elements to the gameplay

Cons:

• I am not sure how much replay value a game like this will have
• Some people may find a few of the puzzles a bit tricky
