Deadly Broadcast

A survival horror game for the modern age, Deadly Broadcast uses a tried-and-true formula and applies it to a contemporary streamer setting that will send a chill down your spine in more ways than one. Step into the shoes of a streamer as you investigate an abandoned location that’s haunted by mutant aberrations and demonic influences – but beware: you have to keep streaming, no matter what you see.

Clunky at parts and disappointingly simple at others, Deadly Broadcast can live up to its unique setting from time to time. However, most of the time you spend playing the game will be expecting the usual jumpscare – and that can get old very quickly, especially for fans of the survival horror genre.

Terminally Online

Deadly Broadcast goes straight to the point when it comes to both its plot and its setting. As an online streamer, your character looks for the ultimate thrill-seeking experience – and what better experience than going adventuring late at night in an abandoned mental hospital.

As if that wasn’t creepy enough, this asylum also happens to be the place where a deranged scientist has been doing some “research” that created demon-human hybrids – and they’re just as vicious as they sound. But that isn’t enough to convince your character to stay away – no, if anything, that just means more views for your stream.

The game feels like a mix between Left 4 Dead and Cry of Fear – that is if we reduced those games to their most essential components.

Your goal will be to survive the dangers of the asylum, finding the eerie hearts that keep it alive and destroying them to earn your freedom back. The game rewards a speedy escape, as things can get quite hairy if you take too long to escape from the facility.

Meta-Multiplayer Experience

For a survival horror game, Deadly Broadcast sure has a simple gameplay. That’s not a negative comment, however: the game throws you right into the action, with little to no explanation other than the usual messages from your followers you get during your character’s live stream.

As far as the monsters go – which, as we know, are an integral part of the whole ‘survival horror’ experience – they are sufficiently scary. They never look all too different from pale zombies, but the oppressive atmosphere and the creepy sounds sure help in elevating the overall quality of the game.

When we mentioned Left 4 Dead as one of the main inspirations for Deadly Broadcast, we meant the multiplayer aspect of the game. Along with three other players, the game becomes a much more solid experience once you have a party to share the horrifying experience with. It still won’t be spine-chillingly scary, but, at the very least, it becomes all the more enjoyable than playing the game solo.

If you’re looking for a nice little horror game that doesn’t waste any time with complicated backstories or complex lore, definitely give Deadly Broadcast a chance – you’ll never look at live streams in the same light again after playing this one.
