Roguelikes are another genre that seems to be gaining indie popularity. But after all, it just takes one massive hit, and suddenly every developer wants to make a game replicating that success. However, Immortal Tactics: War of the Eternals looks slightly different from the other copy-paste jobs. It's giving players a blast from the past while incorporating genre mechanics.

The Immortal Tactics: War of the Eternals demo was a hit amongst many roguelike peers. Now that we have a full release, is this pixelated battleground going to generate the same excitement as it did in development? There was already enough going on to keep us occupied in beta, and we expect more of the same in the release version.

Despite a powerful narrative and lore in Immortal Tactics: War of the Eternals, the battles make up the never-ending fun. Players will take control of a platoon of fantastical units, overcoming challenging enemies with unique strategies and creative approaches. It's meticulous management that gives you complete control over the battlefield and one that's surprisingly engaging.

That's not to say only veteran players of the genre are the only ones who'll enjoy the game. The nice touch is that developers have made the mechanics intuitive for newcomers, making the intricate details less threatening and providing opportunities to have fun from the get-go. Almost from the start, you'll get stuck into what is some masterfully crafted combat gameplay.

While the battles are entertaining in Immortal Tactics: War of the Eternals, you can feel like there could be more of a narrative to supplement gameplay. However, given the quality of the combat, the omission of other elements can be easily forgotten. The levels of customization and liberal battle strategies serve enough for hours of immersive content.

It feels like an instant classic with hours of potential, and those who have a knack for strategic combat will adore what's in store here. The game feels like Songs of Conquest if released in the early 90s, giving it an appealing factor on its own.
