Maple Story 2

MapleStory 2 is one of those games that felt like it took forever to finally make its way to gamers in the West. People in the East had been enjoying the game for a few years and some had even played the Korean version of the game. That is not needed now as MapleStory 2 is finally released here in the West.

A Fresh Take

The original MapleStory was a 2D sprite-based grind fest of an RPG. MapleStory 2 is much more modern. It now is in 3D and it has a very interesting art style that I would say walks the line between looking like Minecraft and Overcooked and I mean that as a good thing. The world that they have created here is great and features all the “fantasy” elements that you would expect in a good MMORPG.

Character Customization

Before we get to the game I have to mention how in depth the character customization tools are. You can really go all out and give your character any kind of style and personality you want. For example, I was dabbling with two designs. One that made my character look like Link from the Legend of Zelda and another that was a steampunk version of myself. I could easily have spent a couple of hours playing around customizing my character. What is really neat is that once you are in the game, there are plenty of places you can go to get new items of clothing for your character. It is not just the character you can customize. You can buy your own plot of land to build on and you can also decorate the inside of your house. If you love a game that lets you get creative and tinker, MapleStory 2 is going to be something you have a lot of fun with.

Refined Gameplay

The gameplay of MapleStory 2 is what makes it so much better than the first. The first game was a bit of a chore to play through and you had to grind mercilessly. MapleStory 2 though lets you level up and progress at a great rate just by taking part in the story missions and this is something that I really like in an MMORPG as you do not feel like you are wasting your time killing low level enemies over and over again.

As well as a better progression system the class and skills system is also better. You can upgrade your character and make them stronger as you would expect and this is very easy to get to grips with. One other thing that makes your life easier in the game is that there is actually an auto loot setting which if you ask me is something that every MMORPG should have. The way you play MapleStory 2 will be different from the way I play it and I think that is part of its charm. I suggest you come into it with an open mind and just let it flow, I tried to be more heroic in the way I played, but you can tackle it any way you want. Combat is quite simple and in no time at all, you will be unleashing magic attacks that will make you feel unstoppable!

MapleStory 2 is a truly charming MMORPG that is well worth checking out. It is a free to play game and you can put in a ton of time and not ever have to worry about spending a penny. They do sell a DLC pack that unlocks everything and in all honesty, the asking price for this is very reasonable. If you like MMORPG’s that as well as being fun to play have a cute style and lots of customization options for your character and home, check out MapleStory 2.
