The Madness of Death

The Madness Of Death is just one name in the endless list of indie terror games you can find out there. Most of them are good and others are really bad, but The Madness Of Death highlights above the rest because it tries to stand out and try new things and mechanics that can make you have a great experience.

It doesn’t stand out on story or gameplay, yet, this game is such an ideal choice if you want to have a fun night with friends or want a spooky experience with all the lights off at midnight.

The Madness Of Death has a rather generic story. Your sister-in-law died in a fatal crash, and since then, your brother got dangerously obsessed with reincarnation. Because of his obsession, your brother got secluded in his old farmhouse, and you haven’t seen him for a long while.

You decide to explore the farmhouse and look for your brother, but instead, all you find is an empty house and a shiny stone on a table. As you hold the stone, everything you know will become a nightmare you have to run away from. That’s it; there’s nothing else.

Swimming In The Depth Of Dark

The gameplay reminds me of games like Amnesia or Penumbra: Overture - Episode 1, but in a simpler way; it tries to be a survival horror game where you have to be careful with your resources, but it ends up being a walking simulator.

This doesn’t mean the game is bad because it isn’t. The thing is that The Madness Of Death is a quick, simple, and easy-to-follow terror title. You are here just to enjoy the jumpscares (which are pretty cool), and the well-prepared stages, graphics, and psychological horror the game has for you.

A Quick Adventure

The Madness Of Death is a short game; you can end it in 30-40 minutes. This is good because it’s packed with action, horror, and adrenaline, but it’s also problematic because it doesn’t give itself the chance to explore the story and explain it properly. The rhythm of this game makes me think that you don’t have to take the story seriously and it’s more to enjoy the ambiance this game has to offer.

A Glitched Madness

To be fair, The Madness Of Death has several bugs here and there that can make you have an annoying experience. There are moments when you are near a light source but the game still thinks you are in the darkness, making the monster appear just to kill you when you don’t deserve to die. There are other moments when you can get stuck between structures if you jump into the incorrect place.

Nonetheless, these bugs aren’t a common thing, and personally, I don’t mind if I find myself with a bug in the game; as I said, it can make things annoyer, but not impossible to play.

Also, The Madness Of Death has several checkpoints in case you get killed so you can quickly return to where you die. I appreciate this as there’s nothing I hate more than trying to go across half of the map of a game again just because I died to an error.

The Madness Of Death is a decent experience I recommend you to have if you want to try a horror game but you aren’t too fond of the genre. It can be a good kick-off as it’s more of a light game that won’t torture for a long while and do everything you can ask for in a horror game: Making you jump out of your chair.
