Pokémon Reborn

Pokémon Reborn is one of the most impressive Pokémon fan games, hacks, or whatever you want to call it I have ever experienced. This is a game like no other Pokémon game and where some fan games will play it very safe with their story and setting. What we have here is a Pokémon game that is unlike any other that I have come across.

Is This Gotham?

The setting of the game is a new region that is called, Reborn. This is not like any other region you have experienced before in a Pokémon game. I say that because this is not all sun, rainbows and good feelings. Reborn City is dark, dirty, filled with crime, smog, and death and it is not a nice place at all!

That is right, Pokémon Reborn is a darker more mature Pokémon game than you are used to and I can tell you right now this is not for kids. The story is very well written and I do not want to spoil anything, but you getting this region back to its former glory is the center of what is going on.

This Emerald Does Shine

The game that this is based on ins Pokémon Emerald so everything that you have there is available here, but there is far more. You can select from 21 different starter Pokémon and the game features 907 Pokémon that you can find! The world is massive and I mean massive and getting lost is something that will happen to you for sure. There are close to 20 gyms to battle in and there is just so much to do here that you will never be bored while playing this game.

The Field Effect System

Some Pokémon fan games play it real safe, but Pokémon Reborn does not. I am not just talking about the darker setting, but the gameplay too. Included here is something that is called The Field Effect System and it is actually pretty cool. The environment you are battling in will make certain attacks do more damage. For example, if you are in a forest, grass attacks will do increased damage. This adds yet another layer of strategy to the game.

In addition to the Field Effect System. You also have platforming sections, puzzles, some mind-bending riddles and much more to keep you busy.

Pros:

• I love the Reborn region
• The dark and twisted setting is great
• 21 different starters to pick from
• There are close to 1000 Pokémon in this game!
• The Field Effect System is very clever

Cons:

• The language is pretty naughty!
• Some might not like how dark the game is
