Today we are talking about a game that I feel has a lot of potential and that is Steel Crew. This game looks like it is going to be a ton of fun and I say ton quite literally as this is a game about tanks! This is a “simulation” style of game which is aiming to make it feel like you are actually part of the crew that is inside a tank. The game is not yet complete, but I thought it would be fun to take a closer look at the way it is shaping up right now.
Tank, Tank, Tank!
The last game I played that was about a tank was Tank! Tank! Tank! For the Nintendo Wii U and that was a pretty fun arcade experience. What we have here with Steel Crew is a game that is not trying to be “fun” well it is trying to be a fun experience.
However, this is all about the gritty realism that tank operators would face during a war. So far, it does not look like there is going to be any kind of single-player story in the game, but if the multiplayer is right, I am actually ok with that.
The Big Three
The idea of the game is that you take part in tank vs tank battles. Interestingly, you do not just pilot a tank by yourself. The idea is that each tank has a three-person crew and communication between you is the key to being successful and make sure you are the ones doing the blowing up and not being blown up yourself! The three roles that you can play are, tank commander, tank driver, and a tank gunner. It is going to be interesting to see what role each person on the team likes to play best.
Do you remember that Power Rangers knockoff VR Troopers? Ok., so that has nothing to do with Steel Crew here, but I will tell you that this game supports VR. It was actually the trailer that showed off the VR aspect of the game that appealed to me most of all. It looks pretty immersive and like being inside the tank is going to be very claustrophobic.
It is worth noting that the game is also going to support “regular” gameplay too so if you do not have a VR headset you can still play this. As I write this, Steel Crew still does not have any kind of concrete release date listed. The information that I have given you today is actually pretty much all we know about the game so far.
I cannot think of another game that lets you take control of a tank the way that this does, especially when you consider the VR aspect that the game has. This could be one to keep an eye on if you are looking for something a little different to play with your friends.
- I like the idea of working as a team to control a tank
- The VR aspect of the game looks great
- It is going to really encourage teamwork
- They have gone for a more sim approach to tanks which sounds interesting
- They are very stingy with what game modes we can expect
- You really will have to communicate with people to actually play this
