Get ready for The Addams Family: Mansion Mayhem. Oh yes, that’s right folks. The weird but well received animated movie that followed the more 21st century escapades of the Addams family got a tie-in game. I hope you are ready for some pretty basic gameplay wrapped up in a mismatched gothic packing paper. Join Wednesday, Pugsley, Gomez and Morticia Addams as they embark on a strange adventure around their house in this very safe platformer game that doesn’t try anything to crazy. It’s a game, let’s get into it.

Gameplay

Okay, let me lay it out for you. This is a very simple game that did not try to push the envelope in any real way, shape or form that only exists as a tie in; like Disney’s Aladdin or The Warriors. If you love a simple 3D platformer that just goes with the flow then you won’t have any complaints about this one.

Join the family alone or with 3 other players and jump into the action as you have to traverse the house as miniaturized members of the family and avoid traps, dangers and enemies throughout. Why are there so many strange creatures in the Addams family kitchen? Well, because it’s The Addams Family.

Your objective is to make your way through the level and accomplish three tasks. Like a Mario or Scooby-Doo! First Frights, you must collect a bunch of coins, and utilize power ups to do so. For the most part, you go through the motions and explore the mansion, something I found to be quite fun actually. There’s a lot of history hidden around the Addams Mansion and discovering it is surprisingly rewarding, especially if you like the franchise.

Competitivity

There is a lot about this game that inspires competitiveness between players. The usual missions of progressing through the house is one thing but there are also loads of mini games available for you and three other players to get into. I, personally, found the competitive aspect of the game one of the best bits. Really getting into it with a friend is what gives the game its replay value. Hidden within this game is a good time with friends to be had.

Visuals

The character models of the game are very true to the animated movie that came out in 2019. For all intents and purposes, this isn’t visually bad at all. It’s clean and concise and everything is easy to see. Despite its very dark color palette, it uses other light sources quite well and successfully makes many of the mission areas pop with a modicum of vibrance.
