Arachnophobes beware! Kill It With Fire is the game that will let you finally enact vengeance on those eight-legged freaks that have terrorized you all your life. In this first-person game, players must use an increasingly powerful arsenal to deal with the dreaded spiders that torment your suburban home.
Unique and surprisingly entertaining, Kill It With Fire is the ideal game to unwind after work, or if you really need to off some virtual spiders. Keep reading our review to see if this is the game to finally overcome your arachnophobia, or if you’re better off just going to a therapist.
In this game, players take control of a member of the ‘Kill It With Fire’ extermination company: these are the guys you call when there’s a spider in your place, and you need it dead as soon as possible. Of course, speed doesn’t always go along with precision, so customers can expect some ‘collateral damage’ to happen while they get rid of spiders.
You must find and destroy each Spider in the customers’ buildings; the creepy crawlers could be hiding in every crevice of the room, so you have to keep your eyes peeled. At your disposal is a huge arsenal of weapons, including shotguns, flamethrowers, and even ninja stars. A few broken pieces of furniture is but a small price to pay if it means the complete eradication of the spiders, so shoot at your heart’s content.
During your exterminations, you might come face to face with special spiders. These arachnids are a stronger variety that will complicate your job further. From zombie spiders to radioactive ones, these mutations mean that you have to keep vigilant of your surroundings, for not every spider is harmless.
Simple yet entertaining
Let’s be honest for a second: Kill It With Fire won’t win any awards for its plot. The game is as simple as it gets, just point a gun at a spider and kill it. Easy as. Yet, the core mechanics of the game are entertaining enough to keep you hooked for hours, and before you know it, you’re caught replaying previous levels to discover the game’s many secrets.
Each level comes with a list of tasks to complete to keep things interesting. Some of the tasks have nothing to do with spiders – like blowing out a birthday candle – and provide instead access to secret areas and bonus points.
The game’s graphics are as basic as its concept. Don’t expect detailed environments or real-looking spiders. Visual fidelity might not be top-notch (or even creative), but Kill It With Fire features fully destructible environments with a great degree of interactivity. If you’ve played games like Moving Out before, then you definitely know what to expect.
One thing to keep in mind is that the game’s simplicity can actually complicate things like objectives and certain mechanics. A troublesome element of the game is ammo, which can’t always be found in certain levels, locking you out of some unlocked weapons.
Simple and fun, Kill It With Fire is great for short bursts of gameplay when you have nothing else to play. Although the idea of killing spiders in increasingly outlandish ways might sound appealing to some, it can get repetitive very fast. If you’re looking for a game that has loads of content, then you might be better off looking elsewhere. If all you want to do is kill spiders, then Kill It With Fire is the game for you.
- Entertaining gameplay.
- Low minimal system requirements.
- You can kill spiders with a shotgun.
- Can get repetitive.
- Not much optional content.
- Ammunition is frustratingly scarce.
